Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The newly awarded National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) at Iowa State University is currently accepting applications for a Communications Specialist III. The NIAMRRE will provide local, national, and international leadership in combating antimicrobial resistance, generating evidence-based solutions for antimicrobial stewardship, contributing to improvements in the health of animals, humans, and the environment (One Health), and facilitating economically and socially sound policy development and implementation. The position is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy for the NIAMRRE. The plan is implemented in partnership with key partners in research communications, including Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges and other key stakeholder and member communication teams. Other responsibilities include managing and developing concepts and materials for reporting on research impacts; working with ISU News Service to promote ISU research to various media outlets; developing communications and marketing products for distribution to key communities and outlets via a variety of media; speech and report writing for the Director; and developing and managing the institute's web and social media content, supports promotional events, and supports internal communications. The successful candidate will possess a passion and exceptional capability for explaining the nature and value of complex, highly technical concepts to the public; excellent written, oral and visual communication skills; and the ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in journalism, English, communications, or related field
Experience communicating highly technical, scientific information to the public in various media
Experience managing projects and multiple deadlines
Experience with website and social media development and content management
Experience with marketing
Experience with graphical software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Visio)
