A key member of the communications staff responsible for conveying the Davidson story across platforms and advancing the college brand, the Senior Writer will create engaging news and marketing content for the Davidson College website, social media channels, and publications, including the Davidson Journal alumni magazine, and develop content to support marketing campaigns and other strategic communications and media relations initiatives.
Develop relationships with faculty and students to facilitate story sourcing. Conceptualize new approaches to storytelling. Create news stories, profiles and other content to be posted on the college website, and shared via social media and e-communications.
Research, write, and edit general-interest feature articles, alumni profiles and department content for the Davidson Journal.
Create content that is customized for various social media platforms.
Collaborate with media relations director to advance college’s national visibility efforts by contributing to media relations work.
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or English; Five or more years experience in communications, public relations, English and/or journalism.
Excellent written and oral communications skills. Creative and news writing ability, organizational skills, expertise in proofreading, and ability to work under firm deadlines; strong interviewing and interpersonal skills; understanding of Web content best practices and AP Style. Experience scripting video preferred, but not required. Familiarity with photography equipment and DSLR video equipment, and video editing software, preferred but not required.
Required to work occasional evenings and weekends; and required to provide coverage of select events.
