Salary Range: CSU Salary Range: $3,515 - $6,173 per month (Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,515 - $5,500 per month)
The role of the University Development Division (UD) is to foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance support for Cal Poly. University Development establishes and implements an overall advancement program, including coordinating fundraising, donor relations, gift processing, trust and endowment management, training and systems support for the donor database, and Cal Poly Foundation support and administration.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Donor Relations, and in close collaboration with University Marketing, the Campaign Communications and Web Specialist is responsible for web, print and digital communications designed to support the University's comprehensive campaign and will oversee specific technical activities as they relate to social media, web and design. This position will create and post campaign-related content for print, social and web platforms. The incumbent will possess an essential combination of creative and compelling writing skills paired with the business and technical expertise to be a key contributor in the implementation of a campaign website.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and public relations, or a related field. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, practices, principles and techniques related to communications in public affairs, media and marketing areas.
Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles and formats; and understanding of website architecture and development.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems. Ability to serve as a liaison for the department.
Working knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media and confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and capitalize on media opportunities that will promote the University and increase positive media coverage.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of general practices, methods and procedures related to public affairs, media relations, marketing, special events, and/or fund-raising fundamentals.
Strong writing and advanced editing skills to quickly and accurately produce letters, invitations, spreadsheets and agreements.
Experience in developing a plan to enhance communication between individuals and various entities.
Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn protocols and institutional etiquette related to public/donor relations.
Demonstrated success in handling sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to analyze and exercise discretion, independent judgment, diplomacy, patience, and persistence in carrying out assignments.
Ability to recommend creative solutions while ensuring compliance with established University and donor relation policies and procedures.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines by applying working knowledge of the organization, programs and priorities; ability to handle a complex, fast-paced work schedule while paying attention to detail.
Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Adobe Creative Suite, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet, presentation programs as well as online calendaring and email.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Demonstrated skill with Photoshop, Lightroom or equivalent photo editing software.
Demonstrated skill using Ellucian Advance.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
This position classification has been defined as exempt and is not subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
