Ashland University seeks a full-time Administrative Director of the MFA in Creative Writing and Managing Editor of Publications. This 12 month position reports to the MFA Director, the Director of the Ashland Poetry Press, and the Editor of River Teeth. Ashland University founded one of the first undergraduate creative writing programs in the country and is well known in the literary world for the stature of its publications - Ashland Poetry Press and River Teeth. The successful candidate will have background in canonized and/or contemporary literature and experience in working with production of literary publications.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates training and orientation of students and faculty for residential and non-residential semesters, including orientation on Blackboard.
Manages enrollment and registration of students and work with MFA director to coordinate formation of Blackboard class shells during non-residential semesters.
Maintains day-to-day oversight of MFA budgets, operating costs, and cost-saving measures; assists MFA director with budget planning.
Organizes and executes all administrative components of MFA summer residencies, MFA Open Houses, and Association of Writers and Writing Program (AWP) conferences.
Organizes and attends at least two MFA Open Houses each year, including attendance by prospective students, organization of promotional materials, and presentation at Open House of non-curricular activities associated with the program.
In collaboration with the Ashland University marketing and enrollment office, the MFA director and faculty editors, coordinates and devises advertisement campaigns in professional journals, including production and revision of ads, and submission of ads by copy deadlines for MFA program and for publications associated with the program.
Plans and executes all study abroad initiatives and coordinate planning with Ashland University Director of Global Education.
Secure outside sources of funding for MFA program, including grant writing and legacy planning; manages grant budgets and completes required reports.
Publishes and distributes via email a monthly MFA Newsletter, sharing recent news of faculty, student, and alumni professional activity.
Maintains websites for MFA program and for publications associated with program; promotes program and its publications via electronic newsletter, Twitter, blogs, Facebook, and other social media.
Manages the affairs of the Ashland Poetry Press including book production, budget, accounts, sales records (in conjunction with the Ashland University Bookstore, Small Press Distribution, Amazon and other distributors of APP books), marketing, distribution agreements, book fairs and book competitions, and subcontracting agreements with printers and layout editors.
Manages the affairs of River Teeth by logging sales and subscriptions, tracking daily expenditures, processing orders, logging conference registrations, and otherwise managing its budget and accounts.
Manages the affairs of the MFA student-edited webzine including coordination of web design, coordination of submission review by student editors, posting of submissions selected for publication, and administrative oversight of student editors.
