Coe College is seeking qualified applicants for the full time position of Sports Information Director. This position will report to the Director of Athletics & Recreation. The candidate will oversee the day-to-day coverage of all 21 intercollegiate sports at Coe College. Primary responsibilities include updating and editing athletic department web site; managing the athletic department’s social media presence; writing and editing press releases and feature stories; creation and editing of athletic and selected college publications; compiling statistics and filing regular reports as required by the NCAA, and the American Rivers Conference; assistance with game day and press box operations; other tasks as assigned. Ability to work nights and weekends required and some travel to specified events will be expected as well.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Work with the news media, both regionally and nationally, as appropriate, to report results of all Coe sports activities.
Encourage pregame publicity for all intercollegiate sports on campus and be responsible for same in terms of writing and distributing it.
Work closely with the media and be responsible for preseason news releases, rosters and schedules for each intercollegiate sport at Coe.
Host sports media on campus at events that can be held to acquaint them with the sports programs and events at Coe.
Place feature stories, interviews, photographs and hometown news releases where applicable for student athletes in each sport, and will do other sports related assignments.
Be responsible for providing statistics for football, volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men's and women's soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, wrestling, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s track and field.
Create game programs for home events as appropriate.
Work closely with marketing, advancement and all community relationships on campus.
Send and coordinate All-American applications, report football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball and any other sport needed statistics to the NCAA on a weekly basis. Provide rosters, records and statistics to opponent SID offices.
Report scores to American Rivers Conference Office, other American Rivers Conference SIDs and the NCAA as required.
Maintain updated versions and have knowledge of Coe College athletic record books.
Update and maintain Coe's athletic website. Stay abreast of the latest communications technology and make recommendations as appropriate to the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Manage the dissemination of information through social networking communication channels as appropriate, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Assume responsibility for the live webcast of home athletic contests as appropriate.
Be responsible for taking photos and videos at athletic contests and key athletic functions as appropriate and maintaining the electronic archives of the photos and videos.
Work with and manage interns and student workers.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in communications, journalism or related field.
Two years of professional experience – preferably in a college sports information office.
Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
Familiarity with appropriate software (Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, StatCrew).
Successful completion of a background check in accordance with Coe College policy.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and athletic statistical software
Working knowledge of website software and digital cameras/video equipment
Demonstrate a basic understanding of the philosophy of intercollegiate sports in a liberal arts institution and be guided accordingly in all sports information and dissemination work on behalf of Coe College
Have a working knowledge of the rules of NCAA athletics to enable him/her to act as the official scorer and statistician for all home athletic contests
Maintain a positive working relationship with the Director of Athletics, all coaches, and student-athletes
