REPORTS TO: Client Services, Communications Department STATUS: Hourly (approx. 30-40 per week)
Baltimore Office – This hourly position is part of PRR’s integrated communications team and will manage outreach, social media, and PR strategies, as well as project staffing resources. The successful candidate must have 5-7 years demonstrated experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and providing client or customer service. The successful candidate will also have excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage PRR projects and project teams • Lead elements of PRR’s large Maryland projects • Develop and oversee implementation of communications strategy and outreach • Lead event planning and help implement meetings and special events related to project milestones • Lead and coordinate media relations and media events • Write and produce project written materials, direct mailings, brochures, and folios • Write and coordinate website updates • Write and coordinate project updates for e-newsletters • Work with PRR’s Creative Studio to develop graphics and photos for newsletters, fact sheets, display boards, and websites • Edit technical information and information going to public audiences, including citizen correspondence • Develop and produce PowerPoint presentations and talking points • Mentor staff
Client Relations • Lead client meetings • Respond to client requests in a timely manner • Establish effective communication with clients, vendors, and communities • Provide excellent customer service • Anticipate and respond to client needs • Maintain confidentiality of client information
Quality Assurance • Set and maintain high, “error free” standards for all communications to clients and project staff • Provide timely information to client
Administrative • Work with PRR’s accounting team and digital tools (Vision, Excel) to enter information, track project budgets and generate progress reports • Provide accurate and timely billing information to accounting department • Other administrative support as needed
QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Principles and practices of communications, public involvement, public relations, and social media. • Principles of crisis communications. • Principles of research, writing, editing, and preparing a variety of public-facing materials. • Knowledge of the news media industry in general, including needs and priorities across print, television, radio and blog sectors. • Knowledge and extensive experience working in multiple forms of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. • Project management skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects on time and within budget • Strong work ethic/high initiative • Strong organizational skills • Experience planning and overseeing events • Ability to analyze complex technical information, translate into easily-understood language, and tailor messages for the target audience • Excellent writing skills; ability to write concisely and quickly in a variety of styles, including reader-friendly writing • Interest in planning, community building, environmental, transportation, or infrastructure projects • Proficient with PC’s and MS Software, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Knowledge of Adobe Suite Programs is desirable, but not essential • Ability to quickly learn new software, including content management systems and design software is desirable • Confidentiality/dependability/mature judgment • Poise and maturity to lead meetings with clients and/or teammates • Understanding of marketing a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a similar field • 5+ years of work experience in public involvement, public relations or communications • Experience working in customer or client service and/or the public sector highly desirable
Ability to: • Work extended hours, including occasional nights and/or weekends as projects require • Speak and hear • Sit for extended periods • Operate office equipment • Handle stressful situations
