Posting Summary: The Office of University Communications at the University of Virginia seeks a Creative Director to lead a growing team of creative professionals. This full-time position will be responsible for the management and direction of the University Communications creative team, providing oversight, guidance and direction to all creative work.
The Creative Director for University Communications will provide strategic creative leadership and vision in order to deliver on department's mission to celebrate, promote and publicize the University of Virginia and tell its remarkable, evolving story to the world. Reporting to the Vice President for Communications and Chief Marketing Officer, the Creative Director is a member of University Communications' senior leadership team. S/he is a true collaborator with a proven track record of leading the development of impactful, strategically focused creative communications and teams. The Creative Director is responsible for the creative expression of the UVA brand across media, applications and institutional platforms. S/He will inspire and mentor a diverse group of creative communications professionals, including writers, art directors, video producers, photographers, and production managers, providing creative guidance and direction. S/he will work closely with the University Communications' Marketing and University News teams to support the ongoing creative needs of the department's communications platforms and programs that engage key external audiences in the enduring value proposition, ideals and pursuits of the University of Virginia; this includes UVA Today, Illimitable, virginia.edu, social media, brand guidelines, institutional advertising campaigns among others.
This position requires experience working as part of an integrated team, serving multiple clients, basic process and project management skills, the ability to understand, support and help develop complex creative and communications strategies, and current fluency in best practice for communications and marketing creative work including design, distribution and visual effect. Knowledge of current industry trends and techniques, including video production, interactive and user experience design, and other digital communications approaches. Excellent presentation skills, and the capacity to represent the department and its work to executive leaders are essential.
A Bachelor's degree with seven years' industry experience, or advanced degree with at least five years' progressive experience is required. Agency experience is preferred.
