Soap Public Media seeks research- and innovation-minded editors to help us build our product, in development at beta.getsoap.org.
In this role, you will become familiar with the design and development of an innovative new content product, and contribute to its continuing rapid improvement.
Reporting to Soap’s editorial lead, you will focus daily on one of the “perspectives” that are the building blocks of Soap’s approach. Each day you will review potential topic groups covering thousands of stories surfaced by our automated platform for each perspective section. This entails a commitment (anticipated up to 3 hours per “perspective” section) to:
Review the entire perspective feed, selecting the most engaging, important and relevant topics and stories within those topics, and then
Create specific, accurate, engaging headlines/descriptions for the topics presented, arranging them in a logical chronological, narrative or thematic sequence.
As familiarity with our mission builds, you will be encouraged to evaluate and identify other individuals and organizations who can contribute substantially to coverage and discussion of the issues covered in the perspective.
Soap is currently updated on a 5 day/week cycle, soon expanding to daily; hours are generally flexible within a window of 7am to 2pm Pacific time.
An ideal candidate will have solid experience in an editorial role reviewing and crafting headlines, social-media posts or other succinct, accurate, engaging summaries about diverse topics. Perhaps you've worked at a copy desk, a news website, or managed a bunch of social media accounts.
If you have knowledge of and enthusiasm for a particular sector - celebrity and entertainment; science, tech and education; issue advocacy; politics, and/or business and finance - that would be a plus.
Telecommuting is allowed.
Additional Salary Information: Soap is in early stages of raising additional funding for expansion and distribution. We anticipate interested contributors will be strong candidates for longer-term, full- or part-time commitments under improved terms.
