The position exists to promote the College of Communication & Information (CCI) and its schools and centers nationally, regionally and locally. The Information Specialist develops, designs and executes strategies to use existing and developing media to interact with various CCI audiences. The Information Specialist also writes, produces and disseminates stories, newsletters, promotional pieces and other communications about CCI and its schools, students, faculty and alumni and disseminates this information via various media distribution platforms to reach all of CCI's important target audiences.
Writes original material for publication.
Selects subject matter based on personal interest and/or based on specific assignment from the the CCI dean, CCI school/program directors.
Conducts research and makes notes to retain ideas and develop factual information.
Organizes material and plans arrangement and/or outline.
Writes articles, reports, newsletters, promotional pieces, etc.
Confers with the CCI dean, school/program directors, faculty and staff regarding articles, reports, newsletters, promotional pieces, etc.
Designs, writes, edits, creates and produces distinct communication objects for prospective and current students, alumni, donors, and others affiliated with CCI.
Provides communication materials in support of the college's development efforts.
Oversees execution of all projects to insure quality control and optimization of effectiveness to achieve desired outcomes.
Coordinates publicity with UT's Office of Communications and Marketing and works with this office to plan news releases and communications, target media outlets, and promote college and school programs to external and internal audiences.
Coordinates production of flyers, brochures, programs, banners and displays with Creative Services.
Promotes the University featuring CCI and its schools/programs in all publications, communications, events and conferences.
Designs communication objects for prospective students, graduates, donors and affiliated national programs in communication and information.
Actively manages all Facebook,
Twitter and similar existing and developing social media activities for the college.
Analyze social media trends, tracking new technologies and innovations to determine how they can be used to achieve the greatest return for CCI.
Assists in communication strategies, policies and messaging with the Dean and school/program directors (as needed).
Works with CCI staff to execute special events, including developing event communications, promoting the event, taking photographs during the event and communicating about the event after it has happened.
Fosters and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders and audiences.
Liaises with media and handles requests for interviews, statements, etc.
