Our Laboratory Medicine department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time BIOINFORMATICS - GENETICS (SOFTWARE ENGINEER). This position will provide analytical and operational support for a state-of-the art clinical laboratory performing cutting edge molecular diagnostic clinical assays through development of bioinformatics, web, and database applications. This position will work closely with faculty members and staff, and collaborate with other Senior Computer Specialists and Software Engineers in the department as needed to achieve goals.Develop Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis software pipelines:Develop, debug and maintain software for bioinformatic pipelines and analysesExecute data analysis applications to support clinical testingCreate new platforms for tests in developmentAdapt existing pipelines to new instrumentation and testing platformsSuggest technical fixes and code improvementsTroubleshoot software and hardware issues related to data analysisSuggest pipeline configuration improvementsOptimize and parallelize data analysis pipelinesDesign and construction of applications and databases for efficient laboratory workflow and data management:Create new SQL databases, maintain existing databasesDesign and construction of web-based decision support tools providing interpretive information for health care providersIntegrate data from the laboratory instruments, clinical laboratory, and analytical pipelinesUpdate laboratory record-keeping applicationsOrganize data for analysis and visualizationInfrastructure:Evaluate and install applications for use in pipelinesAssist with data management, backup, and archivingMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Physics, Applied Math, or related discipline (experience may substitute for education requirements), AND 4+ years relevant experience.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Fluency in Python, although less experienced candidates with extensive expertise in other programming languages will be considered.Experience developing software using modern tools and procedures for version control, unit testing, documentation, and code review.Extensive experience with Linux or other Unix-like environments.Excellent spoken and written communication and documentation skills.DESIRES:Masters in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, AND Experience with commonly used software tools for biological sequence analysisBasic understanding of molecular biological conceptsSkills with LINUX/UNIX system administrationFormal training in Bioinformatics or StatisticsFluency in SQLExperience with manipulation and analysis of large data sets.Experience with cloud computing services such as Amazon AWS.Knowledge of next-generation sequencing principles.Experience in development of or contribution to open source projects.Wet-bench experience performing PCR and sequencing-based assays.Experience with molecular.This position provides opportunities to work in a fast-paced, challenging, diverse and rewarding environment.
