The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations (Alumni Relations Officer 2) for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. This position plays a leadership role in developing the program of alumni relations for the School of Dentistry and is responsible for programs including staffing the alumni board of directors, oversight of the alumni awards program, planning coordinating and executing the Alumni Weekend (aka reunions) as well as local and regional alumni outreach. This position plays a vital role in identifying, cultivating and stewarding major prospects via cultivating strong relationships with alumni donors, and school friends.

Plan and coordinate the calendar of alumni engagement. Develop, implement, and maintain paper and electronic communication to inform, engage and build a strong program of alumni engagement. Continually seek improvement from year to year in metrics including alumni attending events, alumni serving as volunteers, alumni making annual gifts, and the like.
Organize the reunion weekend events by coordinating efforts with logistics and implementation of resources including facilities, catering, security, etc.
Travel to meet with alumni is expected, some evenings and weekend required. In a typical month this professional would have between 5 – 7 visits with alumni.
Contribute to the development and alumni relations calendar and work plans, which includes setting goals, objectives and milestones.
Monitor assigned project budgets and expenses.
Formulate and execute effective communications/marketing materials in support of general alumni engagement, and within specific market segments (including reunion giving efforts). Populate a new alumni relations social media account (Twitter, Facebook or Instagram).
Responsible for the overall reunion marketing effort and staffing for 3 of the reunion committees. Coordinate and support reunion class staff of their peers for the remaining 7 classes.
Each month coordinate alumni news stories for alumni e-newsletters and social media outlets with the office of communications – providing class notes/class reunion/feature story/alumni event information.
Help build the electronic baseline of alumni engagement by populating the alumni database with event attendee notes and summary notes of individual meetings. Evaluate program results using market research and results from peer institutions to build a sustainable program of engagement.
Work closely with the Annual Giving director and accept responsibility for some aspects of the reunion giving program. Participate in planning meetings, accept special assignments, assist colleagues and provide support for all ongoing programs and operations as needed.
Prepare routine reports on alumni engagement, new participation, and analyze data for use in goal setting and planning, and to build strategies for the future.
Execute strategic initiatives to have either internal or external impact and establish alumni relations direction. Responsible for short and long-term projects to build and sustain the alumni relations program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education : Bachelors in a related field.
Experience : Three (3) years of experience of alumni relations or annual giving special events or higher education development experience.
Other : No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement
