POSITION SUMMARY: Stanford Live is Stanford University's professional performing arts presenter. With its main home in Bing Concert Hall and landmark venues across campusincluding the soon-to-reopen Frost AmphitheaterStanford Live presents a wide range of the finest performances from around the world fostering a vibrant learning community and providing distinctive experiences through the performing arts.
Stanford Live is looking for a Communications Manager to join the team. If you have a passion for live performance, connecting with surrounding communities, experience in copywriting, excellent oral and writing skills, and a keen interest in building your PR toolkit, this position is for you.
Critical to the success of this position is the development of strong working relationships with the Marketing and Communications team as well as external press outlets and community leaders. The Communications Manager will report to the Assistant Director of Marketing.
JOB PURPOSE: With minimal supervision, the Communication Manager provides support in planning, coordinating, and implementing communication programs. Develop external written communications and design and coordinate media relations programs and efforts.
Develop, execute, and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications.
Assist and identifying and maintaining professional relationships with key press and community leaders.
Assist in preparing content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution.
Coordinate production of Stanford Live magazine (produced 6 times a year) including overseeing writers, magazine designers, and multiple stakeholders
Identify individuals/groups to attend and/or speak at public meetings or other events.
Coordinate media, community, or government relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled.
Source photography and other media needs for performance marketing and outreach
Attend Stanford Live events as needed to generate content for digital channels
Occasional coordinate vendor estimates and invoice processing.
* - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and minimum two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience, required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Previous experience in public relations, writing, proofreading, and conceptual editing
Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus
Experience with managing moderately complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
Knowledge of communications and public relations across channels including digital and print.
Familiar with market research and data analysis.
Creative problem solver.
Excellent oral and written skills.
Excellent computer skills are required. Candidates should be proficient with: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); email programs.
Candidates should be familiar with and comfortable using Adobe Photoshop; basic HTML; and social media platforms.
Ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds.
