Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Iowa State University is seeking a full-time Strategic Research Communications Manager for the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). The OVPR advances the research mission at Iowa State University in partnership with colleges and other campus units. The OVPR supports campus-wide programs for fostering faculty research development and new interdisciplinary research initiatives; oversees several interdisciplinary research centers, as well as units that support sponsored funding, responsible conduct of research, and institutional research facilities; promotes and celebrates research activities, achievements, and their impacts to campus, state, national and global communities. The office also distributes critical information to campus and stakeholders on sponsored funding, research integrity, and administrative processes. The position is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive research communications vision and marketing strategy for the OVPR. The plan will be implemented in partnership with key partners in research communications, including University Relations, colleges and related units. Other responsibilities include managing and developing or enhancing concepts, materials and channels for reporting on research impacts; working with ISU News Service to promote ISU research to various media outlets; developing communications and marketing products for distribution to key communities and outlets via a variety of media; speech and report writing for the VPR; and supervising a Communications Specialist III position, who develops and manages VPR web and social media content, supports promotional events, and supports internal research communications. The successful candidate will be a talented storyteller with a passion and exceptional capability for explaining the nature and value of complex, highly technical concepts to the public in an engaging style; possess excellent written, oral and visual communication skills; exhibit keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy; effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines, and proactively connect to and work well with diverse groups of individuals.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Experience developing marketing, branding, and communications strategies -Experience marketing highly technical information to the public and target audiences in various media. -Experience managing projects and multiple deadlines. -Experience with multimedia communications and web content management. -Experience with communications at a university or research-related organization.
