Department: College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA)
The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at George Mason University seeks qualified candidates for the Graphic Designer position. The Graphic Designer assists in the promotion of the activities of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, including the events at the Center for the Arts, the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and the activities of the academic departments of the College. This work includes the design of printed and digital materials, creating the electronic files for the printing of the program books, and assisting all departments of the College with basic graphic design needs.
Coordinate with supervisor and other marketing staff members to design and layout printed materials such as posters, fliers, invitations, and print ads to promote the events at the Center for the Arts and the Hylton Performing Arts Centers;
Coordinate the layout and prepress needs for the printed program books for events;
Assist other departments in the College with graphic design needs, preparing designs and prepress layouts for small projects such as brochures, fliers and invitations; and
Coordinate with supervisor and other marketing staff to create designs for digital use by the two performing arts centers throughout each season.
BA in Art, graphic design, or related area, or equivalent experience;
Demonstrable experience in graphic design;
Knowledge of the arts;
knowledge of industry standards for graphic design, including the use of standard graphic design software, e.g. Adobe Creative Suite; and
Knowledge of current digital graphic design practices.
Experience working in a university or other arts environment;
Experience designing for printed collateral as well as digital collateral (e.g. social media assets); and
Knowledge of and experience illustrating original artwork such as infographics is preferred.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
