The Assistant Director of Constituent Engagement for Education is part of the team that implements the Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, and Stewardship programs. The Constituent Engagement team builds the pipeline of donors that support the overall development goals by effectively engaging alumni and donors in School of Education initiatives and with one another. The Assistant Director will be involved in all aspects of constituent engagement programs and be the project leader for many of the initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Design, implement and manage the early alumni engagement program including: creating a presence at student orientations; working closely with Student Affairs for visibility and alumni engagement with current students; working with the career office for coordination of alumni mentoring opportunities and alumni guest speakers; coordinating and distributing graduation gifts; designing the initial alumni communications after graduation; planning regional networking events; and creating and implementing other recent graduate engagement and giving strategies.
Oversee and manage alumni data for SOE. This includes working closely with Business Services to ensure alumni records are accurate and complete; and being the internal expert on the coding of various degrees, programs, activities.
Responsible for identifying prospective alumni leaders, volunteers, speakers, and donors through research and individual visits and events.
Responsible for completing 40-50 discovery and pipeline visits per year with alumni volunteers, recent graduates and prospective donors.
Responsible for the content and maintenance of the alumni section of the SOE website and the sharing of alumni news and activity through social media in conjunction with the communications team.
Assist with all alumni relations activities including creating a comprehensive calendar of events, managing alumni volunteers, and collaborating with other members of the Development and Alumni Relations team to execute activities.
Assist with wider JHU Alumni activities including drafting JHU Alumni Council nominations; JHU Alumni Award nominations; JHU Alumni Trustee nominations; the Annual SOE Alumni Relations report; and representing SOE at JHU Leadership Weekend and other University-wide alumni activities when the Director is unavailable.
Assist with the planning and implementation of activities that support building an alumni donor pipeline including: events; follow-up after events; annual fund solicitations (direct mail; email; crowd funding; phonathon); and stewardship.
Assist with the creation and implementation of assessment tools to measure and track annual giving and alumni relations activities to determine effectiveness, and opportunities for enhancement. Produce regular reports for senior staff, including the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations and the Dean of SOE.
Work closely with the Stewardship team to provide accurate and timely donor notifications and acknowledgement letters.
Represent the alumni office at various internal (both SOE and JHU) activities, events and meetings when the Director is unavailable. Responsible for understanding and implementing sound fiscal practices in the planning and execution for all events and alumni related activities.
Assist with the planning, writing and editorial oversight of the overall alumni communications strategy and process in coordination with SOE Marketing and Communications.
Bachelor's degree required. Two years related experience required, preferably in development and alumni relations in higher education or comparable non-profit or private sector institution. Volunteer management and event planning experience with small and large groups preferred.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage to deadline and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ideal candidate will have the ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging, fast-paced, collegial environment. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and a highly professional image with the ability to interact with faculty, staff, donors and volunteers at all levels required. Ability to organize and establish objectives and priorities in a complex organizational environment required.
Must be adept at working effectively with diverse constituent groups and senior institutional staff. Strong computer skills, to include Microsoft Office application, facility with ALADIN database, and content management software, or willingness and aptitude to learn such programs. Knowledge of basic budget management for programs and events.
Regional and national travel required, including nights and weekend work.
