The College: The Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is home to the departments of Information Sciences and Technologies, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing Security, and the School of Interactive Games and Media. The college's Ph.D. program in Computer and Information Sciences was ranked 68th in the U.S. News and World Reports 2018 ranking of Best Doctoral Computer Science Programs. The college has 140 faculty and more than 3100 undergraduate and 850 graduate students; the Golisano College building opened in 2003 and includes a usability testing laboratory, physical prototyping laboratory, and other research facilities. The Department: The Information Sciences & Technologies Department (IST) offers multiple degrees, including a B.S. in human-centered computing and an M.S. in human-computer interaction. The department is among the university leaders in terms of grant generation and publications, and IST faculty include winners of university awards for teaching and research, as well as professional leaders, including ACM SIG chairs. The IST department leads RIT with the most online and global degree programs. With approximately 700 undergraduate and graduate students, 30 faculty, and 6 staff, the department is able to support synergistic research and curricular activities.
Detailed Job Description
Two research scientist positions available at Rochester Institute of Technology - Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. The research scientists will primarily work in the areas of AI/machine learning and are primarily responsible for developing advanced machine learning models to support complex decision-making. The positions will allow the candidates to further grow their expertise in AI/machine learning or related areas by working on important data analytics problems in specialized domains, building a strong publication record. The positions will also enable the candidates to interact with a large team of PhD/MS students in Dr. Qi Yu's research group (http://www.ist.rit.edu/~qyuvks/) as well as domain experts through multiple research projects.
Develop advanced machine learning models to analyze large-scale dynamic data of heterogeneous types (e.g., images, videos, text, and numbers) created in both simulated, and real-world environments
Develop advanced algorithms to visualize results of complex machine learning models and fuse real-time human input in various forms
Collaborate with domain experts for requirement gathering and report results
Supervise graduate (both PhD and MS) students
Participate in report preparation
Publish/present findings in research publications

Required Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in Computing Science or a relevant field with specialization in machine learning, data mining, and their applications.
Strong programming skills and familiar with widely used machine learning packages.
5-years of research experience working in the areas of machine learning and AI
Good publication record in reputable machine learning, data mining, and AI venues (e.g., NIPS/ICML/AAAI/IJCAI/KDD/ICDM/TPAMI/TKDE)
Experience in interactive machine learning and visual analytics
Experience in working with heterogeneous data, including images, videos, among others
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
