We are seeking a creative and energetic Social Media Producer to tell the stories of one of the world's best-in-class institutions through multiple university social media channels. In this new role, you will split time between CMU's Marketing & Communications division and CMU's leadership team. We are looking for a social media expert with excellent writing and visual storytelling abilities to join a growing and vibrant social media team that is well-resourced, innovative and reciprocal. Reporting to the Director, Social Media you will focus on channel development and support, content creation and issues management, in addition to running and growing university leadership social media accounts.
Core responsibilities will include:
Develop story ideas and generate written social media copy, photographs, video, audio; segments and interactive graphics for CMU's primary social media channels and leadership social media accounts;
Strategize, develop trust, work directly with and coordinate with CMU leadership to provide timely, high-quality social media content;
Amplify communications for other CMU departments, including CMU's seven colleges/schools and other units across campus;
Monitor social media mentions and other activity; identify mentions that need responses; read news reports and identify content suitable for sharing; identify influencers and strategies for working with them;
Develop on-brand content to reach targeted audiences on social media via new approaches and techniques;
Understand audience segmentation, how to target audiences and how to utilize metrics to measure success;
Review new platforms and tools and make recommendations to improve audience engagement;
Assist in the planning process and approach to social media strategy and content development;
Develop and facilitate short-form video content production, both independently and in collaboration with Marketing & Communication's in-house video producers and social media team;
Build and produce multimedia projects to be used on social channels, especially those that align with the strategic goals of the university; and
Coordinate with leadership team to ensure social media coverage of non-local events.

Bachelor's degree in multimedia production, graphics design, journalism, communications, marketing or similar field required.
Minimum five years of experience in social media to include monitoring social platforms, regularly posting content that includes copy, photos, videos and graphics, and/or producing multimedia news, interactive graphics, videos or similar content required.
Experience with C-suite or executive leadership desired, higher-education experience preferred.
Job requires working across diverse environments and travel to various locations, on & off campus, as well as standing for long periods at university events and activities. Weekend, evening, and holiday hours will be required for assisting with university and student events and activities. This position resides at CMU's Oakland campus.
