SCIENCE WRITER , MIT Quest for Intelligence , to provide a wide-variety of communications-related support to the communications officer and the MIT Quest executive director. Characteristic duties will include content development and promotion such as generating stories and press releases, coordination with the MIT News and Media Relations offices to promote Quest-funded research to external media, and assisting with external promotion of events by writing and sending media advisories to relevant tech media. Duties will also include website and social media management (maintenance, updates, working with developers to correct issues, and coordinating contracts/billing for services); and contributing to the writing, editing and graphic design of the Annual Report to the President, the MIT Quest Annual Report, and other Quest communications as needed.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : a bachelor's degree (master's preferred); a minimum of three years of relevant experience in science writing, public outreach, PR/media, or journalism; demonstrated graphic design, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; thorough understanding of the tools of modern publishing and website management; ability to work both independently and with a diverse interdisciplinary group; strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize and organize information; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and communicate complete complex concepts to lay audiences; comfort using social media tools; and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of employees at all levels, including researchers, students, and faculty. Must be able to represent MIT Quest to external journalists and the media. Preference given to individuals with graphic design skills and a solid understanding of visual marketing and branding.
