Community Impact Newspaper is looking for a dynamic leader to set the editorial groundwork for our digital innovation. Our new Digital Editorial Director will help build a self-sustaining product that helps ensure Community Impact's presence as a daily news leader between the monthly print editions. 

Imagine working in a digital innovation role for a news company that doesn't focus on building reader revenue. We simply want to build a great digital product and inform citizens. Because we already have a profitable and sustaining print product (yes, you read that right), we don't need a digital bailout. But we do believe we can build a great digital product to match our high-quality newspaper, and the Digital Editorial Director will be given the time, resources and encouragement needed to make that happen.  

We have a website that's been recognized by Editor & Publisher for its quality, and now we need someone to take that same quality content and innovate the product to match the needs of our readers and advertising clients. 

Key Functions

• Lead our company's approach to our digital editorial innovation. This includes working with executive leadership to fill out the missing parts of our vision, recruiting the best in the business to execute on the vision, and participating in the rewards of making the vision a reality.
• Communicate the editorial strategy to stakeholders throughout the company, including the editorial team, design team, development team, and sales team. And work collaboratively with these departments to help realize the digital business strategy. 
• Be willing to roll up your sleeves and do any job required to execute the vision. We are viewing this new initiative as a startup that has the resources of an established media brand but wants to build something that will last 100 years or more. This means the ideal candidate is willing to do the following:
  • Adapt print content for the web, applying advanced digital design elements and interactive visuals to select stories that are worthy of elevating
  • Work with editorial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency of digital content
  • Oversee the routine posting and scheduling of content, including a willingness to write copy for digital production as needed
  • Optimize digital content for traffic and SEO, including training to help direct editorial staffers on how to help in this effort
  • Monitor and analyze web traffic performance and website health
  • Provide digital support and guidance to staff and file CMS support tickets as needed
  • Stay up to date with best-in-class industry tools and vendors
