Position Summary: The individual will work as a key member of the Office of Marketing & Communications, which is charged with protecting and elevating the reputation of Yeshiva University and conveying its messages, mission and vision to the community and broader world. The Digital Media Manager will acquire and provide photography and video content for use in publications, media releases, website and social media activities, presentations, grants, events and so on, ensuring the photography and video support the mission, message and vision of the University and engages potential students and supporters while instilling pride in our existing students, alumni and donors.
Lead the creative, photojournalistic direction of the university based on the developing messages, directions and themes set by the VP of Marketing & Communications, Director of Marketing and Communications, and the President
Support the efforts of the entire institution on procuring imagery for their needs and the archive and ensure that photo shoots by external vendors are following procedural guidelines and contractual agreements; directing the work of and contributing to selection of freelance photographers is a key responsibility
Capture a wide variety of photographs and video footage that will support the needs of the communications team and graphic design department to keep the institutional archive and web site(s) current, timely and compelling
Ensure the technical quality of the imagery and create an archive that offers redundant access and supports the needs of Communications and our clients across the University
Oversee the online photo gallery and ensure that images are posted live or in a timely fashion depending on the event and the urgency to make them available to the public
Consult and collaborate with clients, the news team, print and web designers on the imagery that best supports their goals/objectives in print and online
Serve as video-journalist to provide coverage for events and news segments
Lead photo / video efforts on social media channels and emerging technologies
Make recommendations on process as the institution shifts in structure and demands on the office change
Prepare and optimize images for specific uses
Continue to stay current with technical changes in the industry
Provide photo/video research to all areas of the institution and help maintain fee structure
Keep current on the latest trends and bring creative, leading-edge thinking to how we build and maintain our photo archive and infrastructure
Experience & Educational Background:
A bachelors degree in Photography, Photojournalism and 3 - 5 years' experience in news/editorial photography/videography is highly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Must be proficient in digital photography (capture); digital imaging (toning, retouching, resizing, color management); Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite; image archiving/knowledge of image management software; databasing software
Must be proficient in video editing, direction and production
Skills & Competencies:
Collaboration with the creative design and news team critical to success as with subjects of photography and freelancers
Contributions to the editorial team, assisting in capture and efficiency in workflow and organizational skills a must
Ability to learn and help to improve new systems for editing and file management a must
Must be able to prioritize and plan schedule while staying open to sudden changes and needs of the department as a whole
Must liaise with approved freelance photographers so they can make the choices that will provide us with the best possible images
