Summary of Position: The Assistant Director at Mills College is responsible for oversight of all Enrollment communications serving both prospective and continuing undergraduate and graduate students. As a member of the Enrollment and Student Financial Services team, the Assistant Director will focus on electronic, light print, and social media communications that serves the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Accounts. Under the direction of the AVP, the Assistant Director supports College brand and marketing positioning to effectively articulate institutional offerings, process and procedure, and college vision. Work created by the position is intended to assist in enrollment and retention initiatives with direct commitment to access and affordability and student academic success. This position requires strong writing and creative skills, leadership and teamwork, the ability to effectively use communications tools, a comprehension of the enrollment process from prospective student to commencement, and the familiarity with current college-going culture.
Essential Job Functions: Develop and Execute Communication Strategies
Develops strategic recruitment communication plans, in partnership with the Director of Admissions, that focuses on serving undergraduate and graduate prospective students at all stages of the enrollment funnel, including the announcements of new programs, events, etc..
Develops enrollment communication plans, in partnership with the Director of Financial Aid, that focuses on serving undergraduate and graduate prospective and continuing students at all stages of the financial aid cycle, including financial literacy for both student and parent, etc..
Develops enrollment communication plans, in partnership with the Student Administrative Services Manager & Bursar, that focuses on serving undergraduate and graduate prospective and continuing students at all stages of the academic billing cycle, including payment and understanding your bill, etc..
Coordinate all aspects of recruitment and enrollment communication plans through the use of appropriate tools: Slate, Banner, Social Media channels, texting, email and print.
Maintain the content and coordinate the scheduling and logistics of all communication flows.
Partner with the Marketing team to create, design, layout, and produce email, postcards, flyers, brochures, social media postings and other communications collateral.
Serve as day-to-day contact on assigned communications projects.
Assist and coordinate online and social marketing - keen understanding of social and Web-related marketing writing.
Passionate about writing copy that resonates with target markets. Able to adapt writing style to different audiences. Able to accommodate other points of view and accept feedback.
Knowledge of communications tools using products like InDesign, Adobe, institutional CRM solutions, Instagram, Facebook and SnapChat. Responsible for sourcing new modalities of communication that continue to support improved student engagement.
Reporting and Analysis
Generate monthly reports to track ROI on activities related to strategic communication plans
Evaluation and analysis of competitive marketing activities
Assist with development and maintenance and coordination of marketing and communications calendars
Coordinate, monitor and engage with prospective and continuing students as they experience Admission and Student Financial Services. Develop reports that share data, trends, and benchmarks used to measure engagement with both offices.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison with Student Affairs to remain engaged with current student body and their experiences with the Enrollment Services Division.
Other duties as assigned by the VP of Enrollment and Marketing and the AVP of Enrollment and Student Financial Services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1-3 years of relevant experience; experience in higher education preferred
Outstanding oral and written, and social media communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail with a track record of executing multiple projects
Ability to exhibit strong customer service for all levels of College constituencies and members of the public.
Ability to communicate with a diverse population of prospective undergraduate and graduate students
Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
Comfort with student information systems database to promote accurate data entry and reporting.
Intermediate knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Intermediate knowledge of Social Media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Knowledge of enrollment cycles, recruiting and communication strategies
Familiarity with undergraduate admission and financial aid process.
Strong understanding of the NACAC Code of Ethics and Professional Practices (CEPP).
Exceptional professionalism when representing Mills College.
Knowledge of Slate Technolutions CRM or comparable CRM product.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Ability to work some nights and weekends as student activities operate at varied times

This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review). Staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
