ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR COMMUNICATIONS , MIT Open Learning (OL) , to develop and deliver communications strategies to enhance OL's brand recognition, publicize research and other newsworthy content, and amplify impact. Responsibilities will include developing, refining, updating, and delivering core branding and communications messages; collaborating with MIT News to develop a media relations strategy, particularly pertaining to publications on digital learning and learning research, to raise OL's visibility; managing online branding, including website development/updates, social media, and videos; conceiving of and producing white papers, thought pieces, editorials, MIT News stories, newsletters, etc.; developing and managing collateral, including brochures, print materials, photo bank, annual report, etc.; coordinating outreach at conferences/symposia/academic events, including identifying and securing speaker slots and managing marketing presence; collaborating on online branding campaigns; identifying and communicating timely developments in digital learning and learning research; developing and managing a strategy to utilize events to enhance the presence of OL; managing internal communications; developing and employing analytics and other evaluation measures; and managing one employee and freelancers.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; at least five years' progressive experience in communications, journalism, marketing, corporate relations, public relations, or related field; excellent editorial, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to juggle multiple commitments and independently meet competing priorities and deadlines; experience with online presence, social media, and websites; proactive approach to responsibilities; and ability to build consensus and achieve impact in an environment with multiple stakeholders and build effective relationships with executives and senior leaders. PREFERED : advanced degree; experience building brands and positioning organizations to achieve impact in competitive communications environments; and experience in higher education, digital learning, and/or teaching and learning environments.
