Multimedia specialist with responsibilities for providing coverage of various colleges and departments of Radford University. Plans, researches and develops content for university publications, including electronic newsletters, emails, websites, brochures and the Magazine of Radford University. Content developed will vary between written, video and photographic work product. Serves as University Relations liaison with various colleges and departments on campus and engages with those colleagues to maintain awareness of events and accomplishments on campus and to make appropriate recommendations for written, video or photography support. Produce and direct video/multimedia web products that can be used for student recruitment, promotion and other outreach purposes for Radford University. Ensure proper technical and aesthetically pleasing production design/execution. Cultivates, establishes and maintains cordial working relationships with local, regional and state news media personnel, including reporters and editors for broadcast and print outlets. Pitches stories and coverage opportunities for optimal placement in local, regional and state news media. As needed, contributes to speeches and other communications for the President's office.
This position requires an experienced multimedia professional with the ability to report accurately, write clearly and concisely, translate complicated material into lively prose, produce engaging feature stories rich in detail and produce creative visuals. This position also requires excellent editing and proofreading skills and familiarity with Associated Press style. Experience in professional video production to include shooting, editing and producing video products. Experience with and proficiency in post-photography production with digital imagery and ability to process images using current industry-standard software, such as Bridge and/or Lightroom, Final Cut Pro X and/or Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop. The multimedia specialist must be available to work occasional night and weekend assignments. Must be able to prioritize and process multiple, competing demands while maintaining superior customer service.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience as a multimedia journalist in a collaborative setting such as a newsroom or information bureau and will be an effective communicator in print, in person, in electronic media and on the phone. She or he will be equally comfortable writing magazine cover stories and short press releases; will have experience conducting interviews with experts on a wide range of topics; will be able to analyze, organize and prioritize information quickly and accurately, often under intense deadline pressure; and will be conversant with social media, current with popular culture, but not intimidated by scholarly research. Because this position covers a range of disciplines, broad interest in reporting the liberal arts, performing arts, sciences, technology and health care will be an asset.
