They provide strategic insight on communications-related challenges and opportunities that align with and advance the Association’s mission and strategic priorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assigned with or without reasonable accommodation.
Cultivate a long-term vision for the communications function; integrating and propelling the Association’s public relations, marketing communications, brand, advocacy and member relations efforts forward while achieving and maintaining best-in-class status.
Develop, implement, evaluate and refine measurable communications and marketing plans that encompass advertising, public relations, market research, publications, digital/social media, events, media relations and other aspects of strategic marketing.
Create engagement-centric programs, content and materials to drive member satisfaction.
Lead brand initiatives including introducing new ideas and implementation across the Association to ensure a consistent brand voice is in place.
Maintain strategic and creative thinking to develop new and actionable communications initiatives in a fiscally responsible manner.
Produce fresh, innovative work with exceptional writing and strong design that translates complex ideas into compelling print materials and digital experiences for visually sophisticated audiences.
Use analytics, metrics and KPIs to optimize campaign strategies, content and user experiences to hit key goals and report on performance.
Manage communications budget; develop paid media strategy including placement, tracking, optimization, measurement, reporting and invoice reconciliation.
Serve as the general media contact while building beneficial relationships with media, key journalists and influencers representing a mix of channels, from traditional to digital and social.
Write news releases, pitch story ideas and amplify content and social concepts to position the Association in a positive manner while strengthening the brand voice.
Champion the Association by fostering relationships with community, civic and governmental bodies to broaden the Association’s public relations base.
Work collaboratively across the Association to identify communications needs and provide solutions.
Develops strong understanding of departmental and corporate goals and strategies to ensure they are integrated into communications and outreach activities.
Serve as a brand ambassador for the Association through participation in activities, at events and in other community and industry-focused endeavors.
Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, late evenings and weekends.

Assist in the emergency restoration of facilities during storm or general outages.
Regular and predictable attendance are essential functions of the position.

Education and/or formal training needed: A Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related subject is required. A minimum ten years of work experience in a related field may be considered in lieu of a college degree. Google Ads certification preferred.
Experience needed: A minimum five years of work experience in communications, marketing, advertising or public relations is required; previous creative agency experience or proficiency in developing, implementing and evaluating marketing communications programs and campaigns is preferred.
Knowledge, skill and abilities needed:

Mental Demands: This employee must be able to work well with the public, Association members and other Association employees. They need to be able to remember what was done and schedule and prioritize future work, stay alert even when the work is repetitious, and work well with detail. They must be able to learn new procedures and equipment, and demonstrate flexibility in all areas. The job may occasionally require ingenuity, problem solving, analytic ability, auditory discrimination, writing ability and imagination. This job can be stressful at times; however, composure must be maintained at all times with members and co-workers.
Physical Demands: They must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
They spend approximately 20% of the day walking and standing and 80% sitting at a desk (percentages will vary based on the work to be performed).
They will stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. They may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Various publishing, video and web-based software, other communications tools and general office equipment.
The work environment is a comfortable office environment. There is adequate lighting, heating, cooling etc. They will occasionally spend time in the field in various weather conditions. The noise level is estimated to be 50-90 decibels.
