This position reports to the Director of Consumer Product and UX on a cross-functional team of product managers, experience designers and researchers dedicated to identifying and implementing product solutions that serve our readers’ needs. You will join a team committed to an inclusive, equitable, and ego-free culture.
This role includes improving and identifying new products that meets customer needs, builds reader engagement and grows paid relationships. You must have a strong interest in journalism and, ideally, past experience working with newsrooms and editors. Building relationships will be key to this individual’s success: working cross functionally across news, marketing and advertising teams to execute on the company’s strategic priorities.
Note: This position will be located in one of our offices or remote. The preferred location is in the Eastern or Central Time Zone within the United States.
Drive product roadmap for our overall site experience, including mobile apps, eEdition, video and audio.
Developing a close working relationship with the news leadership team and editors.
Collaborating cross-functionally and establishing buy-in on product vision and development prioritization.
Translating product strategies into actionable plans and project deliverables with achievable launch targets.
Identify and implement product solutions that drive engagement and serve the needs of our customers; continuously identify impactful improvements to our products.
Liaising with key vendors and making sound business decisions.
Effectively communicating to product managers, product owners, engineers and senior leadership teams.
Proficiency with data and insights, including identifying and measuring KPIs for new products and feature iterations.
Championing a culture of teamwork while taking ownership of key product decisions.
Identifying product solutions that meet the unique needs of diverse news consumers.
2+ years of product experience.
Proven ability to execute and deliver high-quality products to consumers.
Continuous self-initiated learning is a necessary skill.
Experience leading cross-functional efforts and working closely with UX, analytics, user research, visual designers, development teams, and business stakeholders.
An effective and persuasive communicator who can contribute to or lead effective meetings and engage diverse audiences.
Experience working for a media company and/or a degree in journalism.
Nice to haves:
Experience working in product for a direct-to-consumer subscription business.
Experience working with APIs and API integration strategy.
Previous coding experience of any kind.
Telecommuting is allowed.
