A job with Student Affairs Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Affairs Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives.
The Social Media Coordinator is a key communicator for the Division of Student Affairs and Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), using relevant and intentional graphics, copy, videos, photos, and links via social media platforms to share events, promotions, and services that help tell the story and promote the services of Student Affairs and the IMU.
The Social Media Coordinator reports to the Director and works closely with various members of the marketing team and professional staff and clients from around the Division of Student Affairs. Members of Student Affairs Marketing participate in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary.
Essential functions include:
Develops innovative and creative media content in line with Student Affairs and IMU branding efforts including original text, photos, videos and news.
Using a Content Matrix, strategizes, monitors, and posts on social media accounts to engage with the Indiana University community regarding services, promotions, events, and other offerings.
Oversees and maintains the accounts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms.
Creates, maintains, and consults the Communications Calendars for social media content, sharing stories with partners, and planning other promotions.
Researches and analyzes social media trends to determine which platforms and methods will best reach target markets.
Tracks stories, key search terms, and hashtags to develop relevant content.
Creates monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to determine effectiveness and direction of future strategies.
Works collaboratively with team members, colleagues, and campus partners to implement the most effective and engaging strategies.
Monitors and amplifies the pulse of social media content on campus, and partners with campus departments when necessary to strategically share content.
Monitors and engages users on various review sites such as Google.
Assists other social media coordinators with their accounts as needed.
Collaborates with team members to use effective graphics, photos, videos, and copy for strategic posts.
Helps with Student Affairs and IMU social media efforts as needed.
Other Communications duties as needed
Strategizes various ad campaigns and messaging for summer and fall campaigns.
Writes copy for ad campaigns and print pieces.
Edits copy on various print and digital platforms.
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Understanding of, and extensive experience with, various social media accounts, including how they are best utilized and how to strategically engage via these platforms. Familiarity with social media trends and knowledge of when to experiment with new tactics and when not to. Familiarity with taking quality photographs and knowledge of photography principles. Well-versed in design principles. Familiarity with using Microsoft Office programs. Fine attention to detail. Ability to maintain professionalism, dependability, and respect for others. Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy. Exceptional ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Ability to perform well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere. Motivated, with a willingness to strive for ongoing improvement. Ability to receive constructive criticism in order to improve skillset.
Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field. Experience managing professional social media accounts (not simply personal accounts). Experience taking pictures and filming and editing videos to post to social media. Understanding of effective marketing tactics. Strong sense of curiosity and creativity. Passionate about learning. Personable and comfortable talking to others.
