Summary Come join the Parks and Community Services Team at the City of Kirkland! The City of Kirkland, Washington, is located on the northeastern shoreline of Lake Washington, just ten miles east of downtown Seattle. Kirkland is an attractive and inviting place to live, work and visit. This lakefront community has a small-town feel, a sense of history, and a strong appreciation for quality of life. Residents and visitors also enjoy the amenities of metropolitan living combined with the natural beauty of the area. The City has 59 parks, including waterfront beaches, neighborhood parks, regional sports fields, and more than 500 acres of natural area in various stages of restoration. The Recreation Manger provides leadership and supervision of the Recreation Division within the Parks and Community Services Department. The Recreation division has a staff of 10.5 FTEs and 150-200 part time employees. The Recreation Division provides comprehensive programs and services that include year-round recreation opportunities, facility and athletic field reservations, park concessionaires, and customer service/marketing for the entire department. This division is responsible for the programs and operations at two community centers, the City pool and three beaches. Essential Job Duties Oversees all elements of the Recreation Division under the direction of the Deputy Director Hires, trains, evaluates, and disciplines Recreational Division staff, overseeing several Supervisors and Coordinators who hire and lead Contingent staff, independent contractors and vendors Provides leadership of Recreation Division staff to research and develop new programs and activities to meet community needs and program area objectives Reviews, evaluates and develops policy for City-sponsored recreational activities, facilities, and programs to ensure effectiveness, high quality, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction Oversees safety practices and ensures compliance with industry standards for risk management; develops relevant policies, procedures and processes in collaboration with appropriate Department and City staff Develops and manages Recreation Division budgets Provides thorough analysis and prepares written reports for Deputy Director, Director, Park Board, City Council, City Manager outlining performance, enrollment and revenue data, and comprehensive recommendations for Recreation programs, facilities, and services Develops a comprehensive publicity and outreach program through preparation and distribution of news releases, bulletins, announcements, brochures, social media posts, and other promotional items Supports Director and Deputy Director in department and/or City-wide projects and events
Benefits Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Work is primarily conducted in a typical office environment. Incumbent is frequently required to visit program/activity sites for monitoring purposes. Work is fast paced with frequent interruptions from phone calls, staff and visitors. Work may temporarily expose incumbent to high decibel levels. Occasionally requires lifting of supplies and equipment of approximately 50 pounds. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to attend programs and meetings scheduled outside of normal office hours. Work Hours Monday – Friday 8am-5pm Work Location City Hall* *Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hall is closed, and most staff are working remotely.
