Communication Specialist I

Requisition Number: S_210009 Department: Office of Vice Pres/Vice Chancellor IANR-0775 Description of Work: The University of Nebraska seeks a skilled storyteller and communicator to produce news releases, web content, social media posts and other content highlighting UNL's partnerships with and presence in rural communities and the success stories and opportunities that grow out of these relationships. This position will work with UNL's Rural Prosperity Nebraska and Nebraska Extension to identify, craft and distribute stories; work to promote the organizations' various programs – including the Rural Fellows Program, the Thriving Index, 4-H and others that positively impact rural communities; work to promote events; maintain social media accounts, make web updates, and other duties as assigned. This position is a critical component of UNL's increased focus on outreach to communities across Nebraska. Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field plus two years of public information, public relations, or journalism experience. Excellent writing skills, including familiarity with AP style. Experience writing for the web and social media. Ability to plan, develop, manage, and implement communication initiatives and activities related to Rural Prosperity Nebraska and Nebraska Extension. Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines. Experience must demonstrate excellent news judgment, interviewing, and writing skills. Experience must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and time-management skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in journalism or related field. Four years of experience in public information, public relations, or journalism. Familiarity with Nebraska Extension and/or rural issues. Proficiency with photography, videography, video editing and podcasting. Posted Salary: $45,015/yr. minimum Job Type: Full-Time
