The Associate Director of Communications will be responsible for the crafting of an array of content from internal announcements, feature and news stories, web content, social content and video scripts. She/he will work to identify, research and produce a rich and diverse collection of feature and news stories about the University, its people (faculty, staff, students, alumni, fans) and its activities. The Associate Director of Communications will be responsible for producing content across channels and audiences, including Saint Joseph’s University Magazine, e-newsletters, the institutional website, social media, video, among others. Research and write approximately a dozen feature stories annually, as well as a minimum of 6-8 shorter stories each month. Conduct thorough, accurate reporting on a wide range of subjects. Collaborate with a team of editors, writers and designers on story selection, story framing and production, and headline writing. Attend meetings, conferences, performances, games and other campus events to develop and report stories. Edit and proofread written content developed by other team members. Edit, proofread and write content for sju.edu and other Saint Joseph’s University websites, as needed. Build and distribute e-newsletters, as needed and directed. Adhere to Associated Press and University style guidelines. Meet all editorial and project deadlines. Assist with content plans, as needed. Support the University’s enterprise email marketing program,writing, reviewing, scheduling and building a variety of e-communications. Coordinate brand-related assignments, as needed. Other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field. At least 5 years of successful editorial experience required, with some multi-media editorial and content experience. Excellent editorial skills, including writing and editing. Excellent oral and presentation-related communication skills. Must be organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, with strong time-management skills. Proven ability to write and develop compelling features, profile and Q&A pieces, columns, new stories and news briefs. Expertise with online platforms: content management systems for web, e-newsletter services, and social media. Knowledge of web writing standards and SEO. Experience with Drupal Comfort and experience using editing software (image, audio and video, post production). The position may require long periods spent in front of a computer. In addition, weekend and after hours work may be required. |
