Outreach and Communications Manager

This position will support LabXchange, an initiative of Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences that increases global access to high-quality, skills-based science education through the development and implementation of a free, open online platform. This position will report directly to the managing director of LabXchange, and will work closely with senior staff from across LabXchange to increase the visibility of LabXchange, maximize the impact of output generated by the LabXchange team, and engage internal and external audiences and stakeholders to expand LabXchange's reach and impact.

• Works under the direction of LabXchange leadership in the development of a communications and outreach vision to generate awareness of and engagement in LabXchange.
• Writes and edits a broad range of materials for internal and external use.
• Develops and maintains working relationships with key stakeholders at Harvard, as well as local, state, and national levels, who are invested in the work of LabXchange, and promotes LabXchange work through direct contact with a variety of news media organizations and personnel. Develops and executes comprehensive publicity plans for key announcements, ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and content.
• Creates and disseminates print and digital materials, including web and social media content, paid and earned media, a monthly/weekly newsletter, videos, letters, and other formats, that drive awareness and adoption of LabXchange. Designs and supervises production, testing and delivery of email newsletters, and maintains the program's email lists using MailChimp and other platforms.
• Maintains the program's website and social media and oversees vendor relationships with web developers, printers, designers, and video producers.
• Translates outreach vision into actionable plans measurable in quantitative terms (i.e., creating time-marked schedules, goals, and metrics; audience engagement and volume; and volume of earned and paid media.) Develops and maintains a communications and outreach calendar and dashboard that is monitored and updated regularly, with clear targets for expansion of reach to diverse stakeholders.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of implemented strategies to adjust and revise as required for improvement. Tracks web and social analytics and use them to inform digital outreach strategy.

This is a one-year term grant funded position renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.
