Oakwood School is currently seeking a highly qualified Director of Communications. This position is responsible for developing a marketing/communications strategy in line with the school’s vision and values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Create and implement a marketing and communication plan with strategic long-term and tactile short-term objectives that encompass school events and initiatives, new enrollment, community awareness, and education of both internal and external stakeholders about Oakwood’s features and benefits.
Develop an overall marketing strategy that takes into account hobbies, interests, and the primary marketing channels the audience interacts with regularly.
Conduct demographic and market research as needed.
Develop solutions to a marketing or communication problem, analyze those solutions, and recommend a path to success.
Monitor, measure, and analyze the effectiveness of marketing initiatives as they relate to Oakwood’s overall goals.
Create, implement and oversee communications programs, be it internal or external, that effectively describe and promote Oakwood.
Ensure clear and transparent communication between and amongst all constituencies of Oakwood.
Manage communication channels including the Oakwood website and portals, weekly newsletters, special mailings, social media, emails, direct mailings, and banners.
Develop and track email campaigns to ultimately increase Oakwood’s email marketing success.
Craft messaging that is clear, concise, and conveys the appropriate tone and voice of the relevant “sender”.
Marketing & Advertising
Create and manage print/online advertising and direct mail schedule and placement, oversee design and distribution, and analyze the effectiveness of each campaign.
Track budgets and spending for marketing and advertising campaigns and review ways to be most effective with advertising dollars.
Manage and maintain all content for the Oakwood website and portals.
Optimize digital content for mobile devices and stay abreast of digital trends.
Explore ways to engage and identify new social networks to reach target constituents and drive consistent, relevant traffic and leads from social network presence.
Identify and execute on opportunities to improve the Oakwood website’s content search rank for key terms.
Craft and deliver frequent internal marketing that showcases the benefits of an Oakwood education.
Branding and Public Relations
Plan and execute marketing programs that enhance the visibility and public perception of Oakwood.
Communicate with faculty and staff to keep marketing strategy and knowledge dissemination about products, services, and goals consistent across the school.
Understand Oakwood constituents and provide them with regular, helpful content that’s aligned with their needs and interests while educating them on the benefits of the school.
Protect and maintain branding reputation and integrity across all media and audiences using editorial and graphic standards in school publications and marketing channels.
Connect with influential media outlets and journalists to place stories about company news and other initiatives.
Collaboration & Support
As part of part of the Advancement Team, work with the Admissions and Development Departments to further the school’s advancement objectives.
Collaborate with the Director of Admissions on marketing collateral and advertisements, messaging, tours, Open Houses, and other events to achieve enrollment and retention goals.
Work with the Director of Development to appropriately position development opportunities and integrate messages in publications, reports, and collateral materials for cultivating and stewarding donors.
Support the Administration Team (Lower School Head & Principal, Upper School Head & Principal, and School Head) with communications, surveys, initiatives, presentations, meetings, and events.
Assist various departments and divisions with their design, graphic, video, or photography needs.
Bachelor’s degree or at least 5 years relevant experience.
Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally.

Ability to balance multiple priorities while keeping track of and meeting deadlines.
Working knowledge of marketing and communication best practices, trends in (independent school) education, and technology.
