The Communications Coordinator (temporary) will contribute to the Strategic Communications team within the Division of Communications at Vanderbilt University for a period of six months. The coordinator will be responsible for coordinating communications tactics relative to the Vanderbilt community, including but not limited to Vanderbilt University events, campus announcements and alumni engagement. Strong candidates will have experience in event promotion, coordinating marketing or communications campaigns, writing and editing news releases, emails and other promotional content, and using digital publishing and project management tools.
The Strategic Communications team within the Division of Communications designs and executes integrated communications strategies to protect and enhance Vanderbilt's local, national and international reputation, and positions the university as one of the world's leading academic research institutions through the distribution of compelling content across a variety of digital and traditional channels.
Duties and Responsibilities
Engage with Strategic Communications team to coordinate timelines and plans for campaigns.
Coordinate execution of tactics and messaging for campaigns in collaboration with managers of the following functions: signature events, social media, issues management, editorial strategy: email, digital and print content development; marketing solutions, visual media, media relations and executive communications.
Research and draft event proposals, promotional materials and participant briefings.
Draft, edit and proof content, including alumni email and direct mail outreach, community announcements and event promotions.
Coordinate resolution of project challenges by communicating effectively and professionally to leaders and colleagues across the division.
Gather metrics and prepare post-event project performance reports and results to Strategic Communications and key strategic partners.
Provide overall support as needed and assigned for department priorities.
Efficiently and effectively manage multiple, complex and results-oriented projects with quick turn-around requirements.
Adhere to confidentiality and business ethics; demonstrate outstanding judgment and discretion.
Other duties as assigned
A bachelor's degree is necessary .
A degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field is preferred .
At least 2 years of experience in communications project management, public relations, event promotion or related field is necessary.
Experience working for or with an institution of higher education is preferred .
Experience with publishing and email marketing tools (i.e. WordPress, Emma) is preferred.
Experience with project management tools (i.e. Trello, Google Docs, Box) is preferred.
