Under the direction of the Director, Communications and Intergovernmental Relations, the Communications Manager oversees, produces and disseminates external and internal communications pertaining to all SBCSS programs, services and related educational issues. This position is responsible for facilitating the design, production and distribution of high-quality digital, printed, social media, and verbal communications that promote the SBCSS brand and values in collaboration with internal departments, district representatives, media, and external stakeholders. The Communications Manager also serves as the primary point of contact for media inquiries as well as the Public Information Officer designee on behalf of the Director, Communications and Intergovernmental Relations, when needed to address media sensitive issues and advise the County Superintendent on communication related matters.
Experience working in and writing for communications, public relations, media relations; working with print, digital media and social media outlets; managing communications projects;
Skill in writing journalistic and public relations information; designing, developing and producing graphic arts and multimedia presentation materials; coordinating and facilitating meetings; researching and analyzing legislation, data and information; managing communications projects; coordinating virtual and in-person events; video editing/production; photography; utilizing PC and MAC systems and devices; understanding and utilizing a variety of high-grade still and video cameras and production equipment; utilizing a variety of applications and online publishing platforms; social media management;
Knowledge of internal and external communication strategies; graphic design, videography, photography, social media usage; practices used in journalistic style writing; news gathering organizations and strategies used to collaborate with media representatives and engage stakeholders; style and branding guides usage; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Ability to oversee and train staff; communicate effectively in oral and written form; establish and maintain effective relationships; successfully work on multiple projects; employ project management; meet deadlines; develop and present training activities; exercise sound judgment; work independently; establish and meet appropriate timelines and priorities; travel to various locations;
