The Alumni Communications Coordinator will help to inspire, inform, and engage the UC Santa Cruz alumni community and others via timely and informative newsletters, an engaging alumni web presence, and innovative social, new media, and digital strategies.
The candidate will collaborate on alumni communications as a member of the Donor Relations and Development Communications team at UC Santa Cruz. In collaboration with the alumni engagement team, the development communications team, and the content creators in Communications and Marketing, the candidate will contribute to an integrated marketing communications plan that advances the university's efforts to engage alumni, volunteers, donors, and community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing, a strong affinity for higher education and the UC Santa Cruz mission, skills with digital and other production tools, and should be a creative, critical thinker.
The candidate will support alumni communication needs by producing communications materials related to programs and events, including newsletters, event invitations, printed materials, etc., tied to alumni engagement goals, overall marketing strategy, and university brand message. Scope includes researching, writing, and editing content, e.g. alumni profiles and program promotions. The candidate will be responsible for digital production using tools such as the university email platform, photo/video editing and page layout software.
The candidate will create content, using a consistent, on brand, voice, for UC Santa Cruz Alumni social media communities on all relevant platforms, collaborating with alumni team members and the campus Digital Engagement Manager.
The candidate will maintain the alumni website and related websites, creating, curating, and posting content.

Coordinate and produce regular newsletters for alumni program staff including affinity newsletters, career programming, and alumni council communications.
Solicit and write alumni profiles.
Create and send event invitations.
Enhance UC Santa Cruz's image with selected constituents by collecting news stories from across campus and retelling through newsletters, social media, and other outlets.
Source audience lists for newsletters and invitations
Collaborate with the alumni relations, development communications, and marketing communications teams.
45% - Social Media Engagement
Engage community members through social media channels and other online interactions.
Create custom social media content such as posts, videos, slideshows, and other real-time content.
Manage presence on social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into other social applications as needed.
Drive readership and community engagement by cultivating key individuals and partner organizations.
Build followers through an active brand ambassador network to spread the word about alumni and the campus.
Advocate for the campus in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
Establish effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social networking, analyze and report metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications
Strong writing and editing skills.

Experience with website development.

Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style and punctuation.
