About the Opportunity: The College of Arts, Media and Design is looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager to join their team
Responsibilities: Northeastern University's College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) seeks a proactive and creative storyteller with strong writing and digital media skills, keen attention to detail, and an ability to work quickly and independently. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the creation, digital strategy, management, and day-to-day operations of the college's marketing and communications initiatives. This includes writing, social media, web content, newsletters, advertising, and shared management of Marketing and Communications support staff. The Markteting and Communications reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and works collaboratively with the CAMD Creative team, serving as the lead writer and digital strategist on the team. The position also provides an opportunity to learn and grow in a leadership role, sharing the management, hiring, and training of two full-time staff.
The Marketing and Communications Manager should be a natural storyteller with a keen understanding of news, writing for different voices and audiences, and the immovability of deadlines. Responsible for recognizing good stories and maintaining a consistent volume of high-quality feature articles, profiles, and announcements for CAMD website and newsletters, this person must be a strong multi-tasker and comfortable managing the entire life cycle of story production from concept through research interviews, drafting, editing, and formatting. The ideal candidate will possess executive presence and strong interpersonal skills to enable interaction with a wide array of audiences, from students to senior leadership.
Working within established brand guidelines, this role leads digital strategy, engagement, and content creation, collaborating closely with the Creative team. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for growing and modernizing CAMD's social media channels, which includes forward thinking, keeping abreast of industry trends and best practices, and taking controlled risks to increase audience size and advance strategic communications goals. This person must be able to track and measure ROI through regular monitoring of social media and website analytics. Finally, the Marketing and Communications Manager owns and runs CAMD's online newsletters, using data to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and communications, or a combination of graduate education and experience. Ideal candidate will have exceptional oral and written communication, leadership and managerial, problem-solving, customer service, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle diverse tasks concurrently and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision, as well as resourceful, efficient, and collaborative. Demonstrated experience creating interesting, relatable digital content, and measuring the success of digital content and campaigns on various marketing platforms, which include but are certainly not limited to: social media, e-mail (on desktop and mobile), and websites.
The Marketing Manager is able to prioritize effectively and to understand the dynamics of a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Must be willing and capable of establishing a high level of rapport with colleagues within the university community and beyond, and utilize excellent judgment, leadership, and sensitivity in presenting and working through complex issues. Possesses strong project management skills and is able to analyze and assess the effectiveness of communications methods implemented. Self-sufficient, self-motivated, engaging, and high energy. Proficient in various CMS and social media platforms, in addition to project management tools. Able to motivate, nurture, mentor, and lead other team members to reach their fullest potential. Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, web browsers, WordPress, and Mailchimp. Comfortable working in or learning to work in a Mac environment.
