Department Summary
The Office of Strategic Communication (OSC) is responsible for leading and managing the university's marketing, public relations, and media relations activities to advance the university's mission, core values, and strategic directions. The OSC is challenged to develop top-flight external relations and internal communications programs targeting the institution's diverse constituencies and to develop successful marketing and public relations efforts that enhance the image and visibility of California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). By promoting the strengths and accomplishments of CSUSB to regional, national and international audiences the OSC plays a critical role in advancing the University and cementing CSUSB's reputation as a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California.
Job Summary
The Executive Marketing and Communications Writer will assist with the preparation of speeches, talking points, remarks, reports, presentations, statements, articles, daily correspondence, and other written material on behalf of the President and other senior leadership in connection with speaking engagements or other activities.
The following typical responsibilities include:
Develop, plan and execute presidential communications, public affairs and media programs on behalf of the President's Office. Oversee and prepare speeches, talking points, welcoming and farewell, reports, presentations, statements, articles, daily correspondence and other written materials for the president.
This position works closely with management to develop talking points on emerging issues including issues related to collective bargaining agreement information, strategize on the communication related to union-related matters and develop a plan/speech/remarks subsequent to those strategy sessions.
Draft appropriate correspondence of written materials related to the president, e.g. letters, draft remarks, recommendations, report summaries, congratulatory notes, presidential quotes, nomination letters, recommendation letters, congratulatory letters, donor acknowledgement letters and processes for the President or his designee. etc.
Draft correspondence and messages immediately and directly for the president and ensure that all correspondence is accurate and reflect the president's voice and style.
Oversee creation of content and communication materials for both presidential and advancement departments including actively conducting research and setting themes for communication objectives.
Assist in the preparation of speeches, talking points, welcoming and farewell, reports, presentations, statements, articles, daily correspondence, recommendations and other written materials for the Office of the President and various other departments when needed.
Write and edit communication pieces, as determined by the AVP of Strategic Communication, including but not limited to letters from the President for print publications, press releases, magazine articles, social media pieces, op-ed's, commencement and convocation materials and more.
Execute expert research and draft reports on special studies, projects and assignments as identified by the AVP and the Office of the President.
Work discreetly on sensitive or delicate assignments, exercise sound and expert editorial judgment and maintain the trust and confidence of the university president, senior leadership and their staff.
Follow trends and developments in higher education and reflect in prepared communications.
Supports digital presidential and advancement communications including social media and web strategy and reports to the AVP of Strategic Communication with a clear line of communication to the University President.
Oversee and manage nomination, recommendation, congratulatory, and donor acknowledgement letters and processes for the President or his designee. Actively research news articles, press releases, websites and other sources to find appropriate internal/external audiences to receive such letters.
Attend University and community events as identified by the AVP and the Office of the President on behalf of the President's Office. Recommend activities at which attendance would be beneficial to the university or the Office of Strategic Communication.
Participate in professional development activities as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by the AVP or the Office of the President, in support of presidential, university, strategic communication and development-centric communication.
Actively participate in the Office of Strategic Communication meetings and activities, including providing creative and critical input.
Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, Probationary with the possibility of converting to permanent.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
A minimum of 3-5 years related experience in speech writing, professional writing, and technical writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
Preferred experience in executive communications for a higher education institution.
Passion for public higher education.
Working knowledge of University organizational policies, rules, regulations, procurement, purchasing.
Salary:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,102 - $7,083 per month
Classification Salary Range: $5,102 - $11,325 per month
