Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Government Relations and working alongside other UCSF Fresno team members, the Communications Specialist will develop communications content in English and Spanish for use in print and online by UCSF Fresno, media and other partners. The goal of the UCSF Fresno PAC-GR is to increase awareness, understanding and support for the UCSF School of Medicine's regional campus in Fresno. The Communications Specialist will support these efforts and must be fluent in English and Spanish and able to read, properly write, speak and report and conduct interviews in Spanish. The ideal candidate is able to develop a communications strategy for UCSF Fresno's Spanish-speaking stakeholders and is self-motivated, results-oriented, flexible, and reliable. The candidate will play a key role in determining communication strategy and then in implementing it. This will include developing video news stories in English and Spanish and developing and implementing a Spanish-language social media presence, engaging with media (including ethnic media), working with faculty and staff to develop story ideas, pitch and write Op-Eds, and creating public forums. The Communications Specialist will facilitate the development of other department materials and must be skilled at distilling complex ideas, research findings, and policy positions into key messages and news content for general audiences. The candidate must be able to regularly exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, high-level diplomacy skills and ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
*This position is located in Fresno, Ca, and will consist of some onsite and some remote work.
