This role supports projects and events across the spectrum of Forefront Suicide Prevention’s work, focused on Communications and some general Project Management Support. Reporting to the Communications Manager at Forefront, this position is responsible for directly supporting communications, including content management and marketing.
This position supports Forefront’s disparate programs (secondary education, training & technical assistance, lethal means safety) through the development, publication and distribution of communications, including marketing materials, website content, social media, and organizational or “corporate” communications for Forefront.
Forefront Suicide Prevention is the catalyst for a social movement to save lives lost to suicide. The organization is considered a national thought leader developing innovative legislation and programs that can be scaled to build capacity for everyone to play a role in suicide prevention. Forefront champions state policy and systems changes within healthcare, schools and higher education institutions, trains and supports a broad coalition of volunteers to provide resources in their communities, and educates media to shift the culture of this public health issue from one of stigma and silence to openness and empowerment of individuals to take action.
Duties & Responsibilities: (Identify the percent time spent on each major duty, listed in decreasing order of importance. The total job duties must equal 100% regardless of position’s % FTE. )
•Manage Forefront’s social media: develop social media calendar •Draft and publish posts & tweets on Forefront’s accounts •Monitor and respond to comments, messages, tweets etc. as appropriate •Collect & report social media metrics •Create marketing materials and external communication, ensuring that all messaging follows brand identity and style standards •Assist with conducting market research •Analyze peer organizations' communications practices •Participate in ongoing professional development, review, and stay current with industry best practices •Create, implement, and manage annual marketing plans for programs and projects, including tracking results and measuring the success of the implementation of tactics to inform future plans •Collaborate with the leadership in tracking and reporting the results of marketing and communications efforts •Develop and report on metrics to measure audience engagement across marketing activities
Content Management and Communications:
•Create content for external communications, fundraising, and program materials •Produce marketing materials, including emails, newsletters, web content, social media, postcards, and signage •Develop or edit graphics/images for social media, website, newsletters, flyers, including templates •Develop and design ad hoc documents and materials such as 1-pagers, PDF guides etc. Edit videos and Zoom recordings and upload to appropriate channels •Assist with maintenance of websites, including adding events, documents, images, media, news stories and small edits, collect & report web usage data •Upload newsletter content to JETO •Develop content as needed •Generate and help elevate content for placement in publications to external audiences, such as professional organizations, newsletters of local health care organizations, etc. •Maintain Communications calendar, including social media calendar •Maintain Communications Google Drive and Forefront image bank •Submit regular updates on Forefront’s work to the School of Social Work’s internal digital newsletter •Work with communications manager and Forefront’s public information officer to identify/pitch stories for mainstream print and broadcast media •Work with the Center’s Director and communications team to support the organization’s policy outreach efforts
Change Management (10%)
•Support to Communications and Marketing projects, and other Forefront projects, as needed
•Participate in (development), tracking and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) •Provide consistent project management guidance (methods, systems, tools) to team members •Work with the full project management team to maintain consistency across projects and business units •Lead the process of closing projects and maintain a repository for all documents related to each project •Consolidate best practices within organization
Administrative Support (5%)
Provide administrative support to Forefront Communications and to Forefront leadership by providing backup /coverage for Forefront’s Administrative Assistant on ad hoc basis when needed
Other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic plans of the School of Social Work and Forefront
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field • 2 years’ experience in a nonprofit or academic setting conducting marketing, communications or web activities • Strong oral and written communication and editing skills related to sensitive topics such as suicide and gun violence • Project management and experience planning, managing and executing integrated communication and development plans • Strategic thinking: ability to identify and move good ideas forward, balancing the ability to plan ahead and creating space to be opportunistic • Hard-working and enthusiastic team player • Highly professional demeanor; able to represent Forefront Suicide Prevention effectively in all communication and handle confidential donor and partner information • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, data analysis and experience with donor database software • Proficient in utilizing social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter • Proficient knowledge in website management and marketing programs, including tools similar to: Word Press and Adobe Creative Suite
Desired Qualifications • Experience in higher education organizations, the public sector, or nonprofit organizations • Master’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, or related field of study • Experience with Adobe inDesign and other graphic design programs • Experience with photography and/or videography • Experience with mass email clients and social media platforms • Familiarity with HTML • Familiarity with graduate student needs and concerns • Familiarity with UW systems, policies and academic programs • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style
