The university Social Media Manager is primarily responsible for supporting the university’s overall mission by developing the strategy for and implementation of App State’s social media presence.
The social media manager will build brand awareness, cultivate interaction, engagement and discussion around the organization, its strategic initiatives, and future enrollment by creating social media content, providing strategic guidance to department-level social media content creators, responding to inquiries and interacting with audiences and developing short- and long-term social media and digital content strategies and tactics.
The role requires professional-level grammar and creative writing skills; ingenuity; proactivity; organizational sensitivity; exceptional interpersonal communication skills; experience building and managing content calendars; a strong understanding of the existing and evolving digital media landscape; and an ability to engage and interact with diverse online communities of prospective and current students, alumni, parents and other campus constituents. The candidate must have up-to-date knowledge of social media best practices, emerging platforms and technology, brand strategies and marketing trends. Strong consideration will be given to candidates who also have a demonstrated understanding of the role of social media in critical/crisis communications.
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in marketing, communication, public relations, or related field.
Two (2) years of work experience in communications, social media, public relations, marketing or related field.
Two (2) years of work experience in developing and implementing social media content on all major social media platforms for a company, institution or organization. Experience in higher or secondary education is a plus.
Ability to plan, design, implement and monitor social media marketing campaigns.
Knowledge of social media landscape, practices, strategy, technologies; uniqueness of social media platforms and their audiences; higher education social media trends; accessible communications.
Ability to manage daily social networking across global accounts including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube and other similar community sites.
Final candidates will be asked to provide a portfolio of writing samples with a social media exercise on the day of the interview.
