Support PPPL’s communications team, which informs the public and staff about PPPL’s primary mission of developing fusion energy as an affordable, abundant, and sustainable method of generating electricity, as well as about PPPL’s environmental activities, organizational changes, equity, diversity and inclusion efforts, public outreach and science education efforts, and other news . The intern will also support internal communications aimed at informing staff about internal events, policy, programs, diversity and inclusion and equity programs, employee resource groups etc.
The intern will work closely with a mentor and other members of the communications staff to learn how to work with a team to develop products that promote PPPL’s mission, how to cover events, and how to use multimedia and social media to promote equity, diversity and inclusion communications. The intern will increase their multimedia and social media skills, will have the opportunity to network with communications professionals, other interns, and staff members, and will learn about potential career paths in communications at national laboratories such as PPPL.
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
Under the guidance of Communications staff, the intern’s duties could include, but are not limited to:
Working with staff on photo and video coverage of stories and events
Working with staff on longer-term multimedia projects
Promoting PPPL’s mission and activities through social media
Contributing to photo, video, and design content for the internal and external website
Contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion communications for the internal and external website
Education and Experience:
We are currently seeking a student pursuing a degree in journalism, preferably a rising junior or senior
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate must have good video and photography skills and be proficient in multimedia, with the ability to multi-task.
Excellent videography/multimedia skills
Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
Proficiency in Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere
High level of initiative and motivation
Technically savvy, with expertise in MicrosoftWord, PowerPoint and Excel.
Familiarity with Drupal a plus
Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision
Must be located within commuting distance of PPPL and to work on-site when necessary.
Must be available spring through summer of 2022.
