Our Outreach Program Manager will explore, find, and create compelling stories of the Organic Collaboratives work throughout WI as well as nationally and internationally. The Outreach Program Manager will work closely with faculty and staff associated with the Organic Collaborative. They will dig deep into our programming to detail and amplify the impact of organic agriculture related activities (research, outreach, and education).
This position will involve coaching colleagues on communications best practices. Further, the Communications manager will interview faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders to craft gripping content that can be used in storytelling on social media, promotional materials, websites, media engagement, and other channels.
Primary responsibilities include writing, editing, and producing compelling content that promotes the strategic priorities of the Organic Collaborative; developing and executing communications plans and content strategies to promote faculty research, certificate program, Collaborative news, and events; editorial planning for owned media (web and social media); driving engagement and enhancing the Organic Collaborative's social media presence; and measuring and tracking analytics for data-based decision-making.
Provides guidance for program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and/or supervises outreach staff. Monitors budget and appropriate funding for programming. Promotes stable and productive relationships between the university and community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.
30% Supervises the implementation of outreach-program-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
20% Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan
5% Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures
25% Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services
15% Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan
5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees

Required: -Proven accomplishments writing success stories or human impact features -Experience interviewing coworkers and colleagues for public and internal content - Minimum of three years of professional experience in a communications position. Specifically experience with developing and curating content for print, digital, web, and social media. - Demonstrated experience in writing and publishing for a variety of media channels and platforms, such as web, e-news, social media, video scriptwriting and/or print publications. - Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a complex, fast-paced setting. - Demonstrated experience with project management including ability to be self-motivated, well-organized and able to work collaboratively under tight deadlines. - Comfortable user of social media and other information technology tools, such as e-marketing tools, web editing (WordPress), project scheduling systems, CRM, and social media.
Preferred: -Creation of distributed outreach materials such as sample social media messages or press releases, customizable content -Corporate/agency social media management experience -Experience creating inclusive materials for diverse audiences -Knowledge or experience working with higher education, nonprofit, or community outreach groups -Multimedia experience such as photography or videography - Education and/or experience in organic agriculture and agroecology - Familiarity with an academic environment, including interactions with faculty, students and staff. - Knowledge of, and experience with, content strategy, user interface/user experience best practices and methods, and web accessibility best practices.
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
