The HMS Center for Bioethics brings together the rich intellectual resources of the medical school faculty with health professionals and scientists from our affiliated teaching hospitals, departments across Harvard, and colleagues from other institutions worldwide to ensure that scientific progress, medical therapeutics, and health care practices proceed hand-in-hand with a reflection about the profound moral questions raised by advances in the life sciences. Our mission is to use these resources to execute our vision in teaching, service, and scholarship.Reporting to the Assistant Director for Communications, Marketing, and Events and working both independently and in collaboration with others, the coordinator will be responsible for the following:
- Coordinating and holding direct responsibility for the day-to-day communications of the Center, including creating and disseminating monthly newsletters and email correspondence to various audiences; developing and managing web content; updating and maintaining the Center's social media presence, including scheduling Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn updates. May also include updating and/or maintaining other platforms; editing submitted content for social media channels; writing and designing flyers, graphics, e-vites, and other marketing material.
- Keeping current on trends in communications, social media, and marketing and advises team and Center leadership appropriately, including exploring and utilizing new technology to improve processes and save time.
- Interpreting and implementing relevant Harvard policies, including those relating to disability access for website content.
- Developing and implementing the administrative systems used to support the creation of communications materials, including social media posts and website news items.
- Acting as a backup for Center events including but not limited to consortia, lectures, receptions, and meetings both virtual and in-person.
- Gathering and maintaining data for and preparing reports on the effectiveness of the communications strategies.
- Contributing to team and Center meetings, and is expected to give input into process and strategy formulation.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned.
This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.

5+ years of applicable communications and marketing experience in higher education, hospitality, municipal, or nonprofit sector. A Bachelor's Degree may count towards experience.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with impeccable attention to detail. High degree of initiative, motivation, and self-direction.
- A high degree of comfort working and effectively communicating with a variety of people and audiences in both programmatic and operational capacities. Interest in community building and audience engagement.
- The successful candidate must possess strong communications skills and enthusiasm for working effectively with a diverse range of people within a complex organizational culture, in-person and remotely.
- Technology Skills Required:
- Experience preferred in editing a web-based content management system (Drupal) with calendaring and uploading images and event information.
- Experience using social media tools and platforms for program promotion; comfortable using Hootsuite.
- Experience in Constant Contact (or similar email marketing software).
- Comfort with all Microsoft office systems including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with digital advertising, including LinkedIn, AdWords, and Google Display Network.
- Some basic graphic design experience preferred.
