Reporting to the Assistant Director, Digital Content and Strategy, the Digital Communications Specialist provides strategic and operational support in proposing, developing, and advancing communications in order to amplify the reach and impact of the HDS mission. The Digital Communications Specialist creates social media content, works on a range of content projects, supports media and website maintenance, provides editorial assistance such as proofreading and copy editing, gathers and interprets digital analytics, and manages projects throughout HDS Communications.

- Pitch content ideas for social channels (@HarvardDivinity) based on current events and happenings at HDS.
- Under the direction of the news team, help to conceive and gather information for text, video, and social media stories about the School's faculty, students, programs, and public events.
- Develop daily, platform-specific content for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Instagram Stories under the direction of the Assistant Director, project managing the entire process of content creation and deployment. Content may include video, photo, and design work in addition to writing social media copy.
- Monitor social channels to gauge engagement and triage responses (when needed).
- Gather and interpret analytics (web, video, social media, newsletters) to identify successful/unsuccessful trends in editorial direction and channels for regular review.
- Process and publish longer-form HDS videos on YouTube, managing closed captioning, transcripts, and other accessibility methods.
- Assist with HDS website updates, corrections, and new page edits as needed.
Editorial assistance
- Attend selected events and on-campus editorial support, including interviewing, photography, videography, reporting and writing for social media and other digital content (note: some events and on-campus coverage may take place outside of regular office hours)
- Liaise with teams and departments across the School to stay aware of upcoming events and potential news stories and assist with promotion and coverage.
- Track project requests, timelines, reference materials, and completed content to streamline and optimize workflow across the Communications team.
- Provide formatting, proofreading, and style guide support for a range of work, including web copy, news/magazine stories, invitation text, and report content.
- Support the writing process (including research, drafts and reviews) for publications such as the Dean's Report.
- Maintain templates for recurring work, such as event briefings, talking points, and major events (e.g., Convocation, Commencement, Alumni Awards, and Dean's Council meetings).
- Organize digital filing systems, such as shared drives, Microsoft Teams, and Asana.
- Curate key faculty information, such as book publication lists, awards, lectures, articles, and events.
- Assist in content projects relating to Alumni Affairs and Development (including alumni and/or donor events, fundraising collateral, and annual publications like the Dean's Report).

- 3 years of experience managing communications and website projects. Education beyond high school may count towards experience.
- Basic knowledge of HTML, Drupal-based and WordPress CMS systems, and other web-based collaboration tools.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven expertise in creating digital content for specific communications platforms, experience in photography, videography, and/or design for social media content a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of website content administration and leveraging analytics (such as Google Analytics) toward project goals.
- Ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, and manage multiple projects simultaneously and proactively.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and publish materials in many media for diverse audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with impeccable attention to detail.
- High degree of initiative, motivation, and self-direction.
- Ability to work independently and with students, faculty, and project partners.
- Ability to work with team members and clients to define user needs and project objectives.
- Self-motivated and comfortable using editorial judgment to develop digital content on public-facing channels.
- Experience working in a scholarly or nonprofit environment preferred.
