DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Director of EM Marketing & Communications, the EM Social Media Specialist takes an active role in the development and implementation of a comprehensive branded social media strategy to effectively position UC San Diego, an internationally recognized institution, as a first-choice university to a diverse population of prospective students, current undergraduates and their families. In this position, the EM Social Media Specialist uses the latest social media tools and communication best practices to cultivate and grow digital assets across social channels, significantly increasing digital presence and engagement while continuing to build awareness of the UC San Diego brand throughout California, the nation and the world.
This position is responsible for The Specialist is responsible for gathering, developing, preparing, and posting news, information, and innovative promotional campaigns on Enrollment Management controlled social media channels for all units within the department. This position will also collaborates closely with the Senior Social Media Strategist in University Communications. Responsible for maintaining content calendars for popular platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn using the latest technological tools to execute the distribution of key content at the appropriate time ensuring maximum interaction and engagement. Nurture EM online communities, actively engage with users, identify brand influencers and implement processes and procedures to regularly test, measure and improve digital engagement. Respond to basic inquiries from the campus community and the general public which require research and the organization of materials as required.
The EM Social Media Specialist has a passion for social media with a mission, the ability to align with organizational goals and objectives and can think in multi-channel experiences to attract, engage and retain prospective student audiences. They have knowledge of the latest platforms, tools, techniques and trends in relation to social media. They drive unit-wide messaging and advocate for new approaches that advance the department and its goals. As a member of the EM Creative Services team, they also provide general writing, editing and collateral material design support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Minimum one (1) year of professional or internship experience / training developing integrated social media marketing, communication strategies and campaigns.
Experience developing social media content for diverse populations ages 12-22. Skill in producing and editing video and photographic content on mobile devices for social media platforms.
Working knowledge of concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations. Experience leveraging social media and digital marketing initiatives.
General knowledge of the usage and applications of electronic communication tools and skill in using same. Proven ability to weave in targeted keywords into content and positively impact SEO. Ability to understand and analyze marketing data and develop program recommendations from these insights.
Good written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen. Exceptional writing, proofing, and editing ability.
Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage against daily, weekly, and monthly event calendars.
Proactive approach to problem identification and resolution.
