Primary focus areas include increasing alumni and family participation in the life of the College through the development and execution of an annual communications plan along with providing strategic event management for Alumni and Parent events. The position leads brand-driven communications events and is responsible for creating, curating, and delivering content that fosters a culture of philanthropy and inspires action. This position is a key member of the Development and Alumni Engagement department, requiring a highly collaborative approach, positive attitude, perseverance, and the ability to think strategically and creatively. This position reports to the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and implement a multi-channel communications plan that fosters a culture of philanthropy, markets events and programs, communicates giving opportunities, and engages alumni and families in the life of the College; ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and budget;
- Create and implement annual comprehensive communications calendar for Alumni & Family Engagement team to market events and send e-communications that will ensure balanced and consistent engagement throughout the year.
- Manage alumni and family engagement website, email campaigns, and social media platforms;
- Update news stories weekly/bi-weekly; create and send monthly alumni e-newsletters and weekly parent e-newsletters; maintain and update active webpages.
- Work with Alumni & Development Fellow to create a strategic social media plan for Alumni on Instagram and Facebook and Centre Families and Parent Groups on Facebook.
- Consistently monitor and respond appropriately to Centre College Alumni and Centre College Families pages and class groups on social media (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook);
- Send emails on behalf of student organizations, on-campus departments, and faculty. Provide editorial feedback for these communications to ensure messaging is clear and within college guidelines.
- Plan and coordinate logistics for on-campus and regional events including Commencement Weekend, Family Weekend, Homecoming and Reunions, Chapter Programs, Regional Parent and Alumni Events, Alumni Board Meetings, Parent Committee Meetings, President’s Advisory Committee Meetings, Alumni College; as well as other campus and online events;
- Work collaboratively with campus partners, including the Center for Career & Professional Development, Athletics, Admissions, Diversity and Inclusion, Academic Affairs, the Norton Center for the Arts and other offices to plan and promote cross-campus events and connections;
- Work in partnership with the Associate Director of Alumni & Family Engagement to effectively plan events, implement programs, and facilitate alumni and parent cultivation through in-person and digital engagement.
- Staff all on-campus and regional events hosted by the Alumni & Family Engagement team (i.e. club chapter events, summer send-offs, worldwide social and community service days, etc.) (some weekend and evening work is required);
- Develop compelling digital content and strategies that increase traffic and grow engagement; assess impact, regularly report metrics and data analysis, and make strategic recommendations for improvement;
- Provide monthly engagement reports to Director of Alumni & Family Engagement;
- Develop and maintain relationships with key offices on campus to ensure the Alumni Office is informed of alumni participation (i.e. Center for Career and Professional Development, ODI, Convocations, Norton Center for the Arts, Athletics, etc.);
- Work collaboratively with the Alumni and Family Engagement team to plan and produce digital engagement initiatives;
- Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Engagement to plan and produce monthly virtual engagement events (Alumni Expert Series, Cooking at Craik House, and Coffee with the Miltons, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Communications Office to ensure alumni and family engagement messaging and promotional efforts consistently align with College brand standards;
- Serve as a liaison to the Communications Office to ensure the Development pipeline is up-to-date with current and upcoming projects
- Serve as a member of the Alumni & Family Engagement team by participating in group strategy discussions, providing project leadership, sharing information with colleagues and contributing to the achievement of the overall goals of the Development and Alumni Engagement department;
- Plan to work and provide support for all on-campus events hosted by the Alumni & Family Engagement team, including but not limited to Commencement, Family Weekend, Homecoming Weekend, Founders Day, Alumni Board Meetings, Parent Committee Meetings, and Alumni College.
- Plan to work and/support local/regional alumni and parent engagement events (i.e. club chapter events, summer send-offs, worldwide social and community service days, etc.)

Marginal Job Functions:
- Provide support to campus offices requiring the involvement of parents, families, and alumni;
- Serve as a member of the annual giving solicitation team in conjunction with other members of the College’s advancement staff;
- Solicit end of year gifts and participate in staff challenges relating to annual giving (email, telephone, text, etc.)
- Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required. One to three years of professional communications and event planning experience preferred. Experience managing website and email content management systems and social media platforms is strongly preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe CreativeSuite. Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge and Skills
Goal-oriented individual with strong project management, communications, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of attention to detail and an eye for good design. Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative, proactive and positive attitude. Capable of handling all activities and highly confidential information with patience, flexibility, discretion, and tact.
Physical Requirements
Limited pushing, pulling, lifting. Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs. Mobility on campus and ability to travel necessary.
