Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for the writing, editing, publishing and promotion of sports related information on all Lewis University Athletic programs, while maintaining a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The Director of Athletic Communications also works in conjunction with the Lewis University Marketing/Communications office and provides articles for University publications and coordination of major athletic news and events.
Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Write, edit, typeset, and publish sports related information including but not limited to: press releases, feature articles, schedule cards, media guides, programs, etc. -Upkeep statistics for all teams. -Supervise and delegate work assignments to student support staff/interns. -Answer numerous media requests daily. -Oversee the sports information budget. -Upkeep results for all sports; make post game media calls; arrange interviews and photos of athletes. -Produce the Quarterly Newsletter for the Varsity Club. -Regularly hire photographers and order prints for the photo file; solicit bids from prospective printers. -Staff sports coverage (i.e. through student support staff/interns) for all home events. -Travel and report on men and women’s basketball and NCAA Championship events. -Manage Great Lakes Valley Conference Statistics for one sport and NCAA Division II reporting for one sport. -Make reports to the Great Lakes Valley Conference designee for conference reports. -Schedule and manage press conferences when necessary. -Keep regular contact with various media outlets. -Make Academic All-American nominations. -Prepare a monthly report of activities for the Director of University Relations. -Contribute articles and photos to the Lewis magazine on a quarterly basis.
ADDITIONAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY MAY INCLUDE: -Assisting the Director of University Relations in special projects and/or activities. -Serving on university committees and/or task forces as assigned. -Serving on Athletic Department search committees. -Creating/updating bulletin boards outside the athletic office. -Attending Great Lakes Valley Conference and other sports related meetings.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
-Write, edit, typeset and publish sports related information, including press releases, publications, newsletters, fliers, etc. -Design, write and typeset brochures, media guides, etc. for sports information and the recruitment of athletes. -Compile sports related statistics. -Provide sports coverage for home athletic events. -Supervise and delegate assignments to student workers/interns.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, writing or related field with a minimum of two years practical work experience in sports information reporting. Must possess typing and Mac PC proficiency with a high degree of accuracy. Must be familiar with all sports, their rules and NCAA regulations.
Must be able to work with flexible work schedules involving evening, weekend and holiday athletic event/sports coverage.
Previous supervisory experience.
