Athletics Communications Associate

Position Summary:The Athletic Communications Associate will work daily with the director to orchestrate the day-to-day operations of the office. The ACA will play a significant role in all facets of the department's athletics communication needs, including, but not limited to: writing news releases, media relations, managing the athletics website, in-competition statistics, record keeping, and assisting with all creative services.
In addition, the Athletic Communications Associate is responsible for developing and producing feature stories, profiles and human-interest stories involving student athletes and coaches. The Athletic Communications Associate will be responsible for coverage of teams and their games and/or meets. This includes reporting and writing, as well as arranging for coverage when attendance is impractical. The Athletic Communications Associate will also assist with the organization of archival information, including records, photos, and statistics.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Athletics Communications and work closely with the Director of Athletics to ensure excellence in coverage of the Middlebury Athletics Department.
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Essential Functions: - Write press releases for games, events and special accomplishments for website, local media and campus communications.
- Maintain in-game statistics and coordinate media coverage at athletic events.
- Assist with the departments social media presence across multiple platforms.
- Serve as a liaison to media and respond to general queries and requests, as well as coordinate coach/student-athlete interviews.
- Develop strong working relationships with coaches.
- Develop and produce profiles and human-interest stories involving student athletes and coaches via the website, including, but not limited to, academic achievement, community service, individual athletic awards and recognition.
- Assist with creating programs for home athletics events.
- Help maintain the Colleges athletics website/archives.
- Travel, when needed, to provide coverage for Middlebury athletic teams.
- Assists with photography, videography and graphic design services within the athletic communications department
- Update online archives each summer, including: bios, records, program information and department honors.
- Help promote a positive image of the College through participation in community and professional organizations, representing the College at professional meetings and on community committees, and establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media and other collegiate athletic communications offices
General Responsibilities:Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications or Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Education:Bachelors degree is required, with an emphasis in English, Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Must possess strong writing and editorial skills, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and PrestoStats/StatCrew are required and video editing skills are preferred. Advance knowledge of social media, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights and/or holidays is required.
Experience:Minimum of three years of full-time experience in sports information, sports public relations, sports reporting, or a related field is required. Five or more years of full-time experience in sports information, sports public relations, sports reporting, or a related field preferred.
Physical Demands:Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
Travel, when needed.
