The Assistant Manager assists the Director in planning, developing and implementing a wide range of communications for Division of Student Affairs audiences, specifically students and parents. This position is responsible for the creation and distribution of strategic content, e-newsletters, and social media campaigns that support the division's mission, vision and objectives and provide access points to information to a wide variety of marginalized OHIO audiences. The preferred candidate will exhibit excellent writing and editing skills, a working knowledge of Associated Press style and demonstrated skills in desktop publishing, website management, mobile apps, social media and content management systems. The Assistant Manager is responsible for tracking and monitoring digital communications effectiveness and providing leadership to all content creators in terms of best practices. This includes oversight and assessment of channel performance metrics impacting content strategy adaptations and implementation of UTMs for email distribution. They will be tasked with fostering collaborative relationships with departments across the division and the institution to inform a robust audience-centered strategy for content.
Duties include:
- Content Strategy – Utilizes audience data to help plan, develop and implement a variety of content for audiences in the online and digital space. This includes directing and collaborating on the development of articles, videos, photography, communications, and social media campaigns through a variety of digital communications tools to ensure representation of racial, ethnic, gender, and other identities, and normalize mental health, sexual experiences, and healthy lifestyle choices among diverse populations.
Leadership Writing – Develops scripts, talking points, presentations, Q&A collections, quotes, etc. - Content Team Leadership – Manages student content team including writers, social media coordinators, and email interns. Directs workload, goal setting, performance evaluation, professional development, and other coaching to elevate the content creation and development of student employees. Maintains robust calendar for news, feature, multimedia, and social media content and proofs/edits all work produced by student employees prior to publication. Lead division colleagues in the development of inclusive, responsive and strategic content intended to tell the student life story from the perspectives of a variety of industries, services, perspectives. Edit content for equity, accessibility, inclusivity, and to reflect values of diversity, inclusion and fair treatment of all identities.
- Oversight & Assessment of Platforms – Maintain and supervise use of project management and distribution tools, including the division's seat of University photo archive Photoshelter, the division email platform Emma, and division social media platforms. These platforms include Sprout, Tweetdeck, Creator Studio, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. Collect audience metrics from the main student life social media channels, the weekly e-newsletter, and adapt strategy to account for changes in audience needs.
- Working knowledge of digital concepts, practices, and procedures to inform tactical decisions regarding the communication of messages online, in digital formats and on social media; and what to include in online/social media messages.
- Must independently make decisions regarding daily time management and prioritization of messaging for Student Affairs Communication & Marketing.
- Must make strategic decisions regarding online communication and marketing plans, positioning and messaging and provide final editing decisions and final brand standard approval.
The Assistant Manager helps to prioritize conflicting deadline requests and accommodates urgent messaging needs. They develop new systems while incorporating new technologies to accommodate changing client needs and maintain industry standards and best practices. They interpret ambiguous client requests, research missing pieces, and edit copy to ensure that we distribute consistent and high-quality communication pieces.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Strategic communication, marketing, writing, multimedia, web development, or other related field
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Experience with Drupal CMS, social media management systems such as SproutSocial. Proficient in AP style, Microsoft Word and email deployment systems.

Advertised Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Target salary range is $51,281 – $59,614.
