The University of Texas at Dallas is searching for an Assistant Director of Media Relations to serve as the University’s primary Sports Information Director. Working in a collaborative environment with a leadership team of diverse talents, you’ll be UTD’s primary contact for administering the sports information and gameday management operations of the athletics department. This position supports and complies with the mission of the athletics department in the development and successful administration of a competitive intercollegiate program and reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Game scoring & compiling statistics from all home athletic events, using the standardized, NCAA-approved statistics programs (Stat Crew, NCAA Live Stats, etc.). Responsible for distributing post-event statistical reports & files to visiting teams, conference offices and the NCAA as required.
Writing post-game wrap-up articles in a timely manner for all events – home and away – involving all 16 UTD varsity athletic teams for posting on the UTD Athletics website. Additionally responsible for writing all other departmental and program news (awards, rankings, new hires, etc.) as well as maintaining all historical content on the UTDAthletics website.
Organizing and maintaining an ongoing archive of action photographs, head shots, team photos, and video clips for all sports for use in publications, website articles and social media graphics.
Responsible for all pre, post and game day operations during home events, including but not limited to student and professional staffing, gathering pre-game information (rosters, stats, etc.) and facility set-up.
Assist in maintaining the content on the Athletic Department video touchscreen (touchpros.utdcomets.com).
Responsible for preparing nominations – both weekly and seasonally – for both conference and national awards, as well as coordinating department-wide and Athletic Hall of Honor voting.
As requested, assist in the creation and development of video, graphic and social media content for the department. Assist in the creation of video, graphic and social media content for the department.
MINIMUM EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred
Minimum 3 years experience as a Sports Information Director or similar in a professional setting. Experience in working independently or in a self-managed position preferred.
Understanding of basic scoring requirements for team sports including basketball, volleyball, soccer and baseball/softball. Familiarity with individual sports.
Experience working with NCAA standard statistic programs (StatCrew, NCAA LiveStats) essential.
Strong writing skills in a high-volume environment.
Strong organizational and self-management skills essential.
Familiarity with NCAA Division III encouraged.
Additional experience/skills in working with and generating content ideas for social media platforms, video production, graphic design and photography encouraged.
