As the first point of contact for most visitors - online and offline - the Office of Communications and Public Affairs tells the Berkeley story to inspire audiences and elevate the image of the university. We partner closely with various campus audiences - from the chancellor, deans and faculty members, to staff, students and alumni - as well as external media organizations who can amplify Berkeley's important contributions across a wide range of subjects.
UC Berkeley seeks an innovative, dynamic and collaborative social media director to take its social media strategy to the next level. As director of social media, you'll take over direct management of UC Berkeley's flagship social media channels, with nearly 1 million combined followers, and provide guidance and oversight for the overall social media strategy for the campus.
Among your first tasks will be developing a new strategy for the management and content creation of the flagship channels. You'll also manage and mentor a social media producer along with a team of student employees who assist with content creation and community management.
In this role, you'll work with a team of top communicators in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs on high-priority projects, including world-changing research discoveries, major campus initiatives and the recognition of top awards like the Nobel Prize.
Your deep understanding of digital voice, eye for thoughtfully representing every member of the campus community and leadership in upholding

Responsibilities
The director of social media sets and manages the social media strategy for UC Berkeley and is a member of the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, which tells the Berkeley story to inspire audiences and advance the reputation of the university. The role requires a deep understanding of social media strategy and storytelling, experience providing news and information for the general public and key campus audiences, skilled work with critical communications, serving as an expert social media advisor to campus leadership and campus social media practitioners, and strategic communication of the institution's messages. In addition, this position supervises the social media coordinator as well as student workers, assigning and reviewing work and professionally developing the incumbents in these roles.
Social Media Strategy
- Designs, develops and implements social media strategy for various campaigns and priorities for the Office of Communications and Public Affairs that enhance an appreciation for, and understanding of campus priorities.
- Manages long-and short-term social media campaigns in collaboration with colleagues, campus leaders and cross-campus partners to reach campaign objectives.
